To soon...?

Today is our big ultrasound (super excited) but I'm concerned that it may be to soon. I'm 16 weeks/5 days...is this to soon to find out the gender? This is our only ultrasound, unless something major comes up, but we would really like to find out the gender and I'm just concerned that we were told that would happen at "at least" 20 weeks. Did anyone else find out the gender around 16/17 weeks or before 20 weeks?

My doctor will not do it until 20 weeks but I have a lot of friends that have found out that early!

I was week 18. I think if the doctor scheduled it hopefully he did it knowing that you wanted to know the gender. I am sure they can see it, just hoping the baby cooperates! Good luck!

I had an emergency u/s at 16w 3d and the tech wouldn't look for the gender b/c it was too early. I've heard of other people finding out around 16/17 weeks.

Yep, I found out at 16w6d, and it was very obviously a boy. As long as baby cooperates, you should be able to find out. There are times, even at 20 weeks, that the ultrasound tech can't tell if the baby won't get in the right position. Good Luck!!!

My OB won't do the big ultrasound until 22 weeks, but I have heard of many people finding out as soon as 16 weeks.

I had one around 16 weeks even, and the US tech was willing to hazard a guess but not say for certain. From what I've since heard from the OB some of it depends on the caliber of the machine, as well as baby position and other variables related to mama and baby. Hopefully it will work out for you!

I don't know, I'm suprised they are doing it this early. If you can't tell, you can always go to an independant place and get one closer to 20 weeks,.

this:) i found out at 17w1d...and they 'confirmed' it again at our 22w4d U/S...GL with your ultrasound...i hope that LO cooperates for you...

Thanks everyone, we gave the baby a pep talk this morning so I hope he or she cooperates! Now if 11:00am would just get here already, I'm so nervous! Keep you posted after.

my doctor's office does the big u/s between 16 -18 weeks. so yes ma'am! also...my cousin found out the sex at her 1st trimester testing which was around 12 or 13 weeks. i don't know what they told her about accuracy, but they were right.

Yep-we had an unexpected ultrasound at 16w 2d and it was very obvious that it was a boy and was confirmed at our 21 week anatomy ultrasound. GL Big Smile
