2nd tri screening?

The Dr. mentioned yesterday that I have the option for the 2nd tri screening at my next appointment.  I know it's just a blood draw.  It won't change anything either way for us, so I'm not sure if I want it.  Did you opt to do the testing?

Re: 2nd tri screening?

  • I said no.  It wasn't going to change anything for us, so I didn't feel the need to do it.

  • The only time it was mentioned to me was at the appointment after our u/s at 17 weeks.  We declined.  Everything looked wonderful on u/s and it wouldn't have changed anything for us.
  • i also said no. if it is the same screening you're talking about my m/w said there's a high # of false positives that come out of that screening. and since i'm too much of a worrier i thought it was best for me not to take it. plus it wasn't going to change anything for us either.
  • We declined, it wouldn't have changed anything for us.
  • We chose not to.  I found a post from a while back about it too that got a bunch of responses - here's the link = )

  • I also said no.  It would not have changed anything for us and like PP said there a lot of false positives.  I didn't want to be worrying about something my whole pregnancy.  I am a NICU nurse so I know too much already and didn't want to add that to it.
  • I said no then and no again recently when I would get the quad screening (I'd have to go to B'ham for that and it's the testing you do at/after age 35).  Nothing would change for us either.
  • No, we will not be doing the 2nd tri screening

  • I plan to opt out.  It would not make a difference for us.

  • I didn't do the testing either.  The posts from my original post really got me thinking about false positives and all the other negative stuff that comes along with the testing.  I just signed my "opt out" forms yesterday.
  • I had the quad screen, only because it was covered, only a blood draw in the office, and everything looked perfect on the u/s so I wasn't worried.  Well, I ended up with a positive (which turned out to be false), and had to go to B'ham for a Level II u/s.  It's not worth the worry to me, as I agree that anything serious will show on the u/s and nothing would change my mind about the pregnancy.

FWIW, I think my false + was bc I bled early on (at 10 weeks), I researched and researched and that was the best conclusion I could find.  My OB agreed that was probably the case.

  • I opted out...it wouldn't have changed anything for us.
  • We also declined.  Everything was normal and it wouldn't change anything for us.
