Babies: 9 - 12 Months

BOH

this may be a stupid question!

your boys are about my son's age and I noticed they get a lot of finger foods and feed themselves.  do they get the food in their mouth....how do you know they are actually eating?  C seems to drop everything.  I feed him all his meals (purees or if cut up I feed it to him) but just give him 'snacks' to practicve with.

thanks!

Re: BOH

  • They attempt to feed themselves, they don't always succed. They'll only open their mouths for a spoon if they can put it in so we try to guide it along.

Diced veggies/fruits, puffs are sticky on their wet fingers so they cling to their hands and get in their mouths that way. And sometimes I can hand feed them too. The only things they eat completely on their own are mum mums.

  • that makes sense.  I was picturing these 2 little boys completely feeding themselves haha and I thought I was doing something wrong!
  • Not even close.

  • Cheerios are pretty good too.

  • I usually put either cherrios or puffs or cut up some kind of fruit/veg to let him practice.  even when he picks them up (meaning they stick to his hand haha) he doesn't even try to put them in his mouth!
