High-Risk Pregnancy

worried...

because I had my daughter pre-maturely (33 weeks 6 days) im already out of the gate as a high risk. it never hit me of that fact until my appoint. last friday. they said my fluid is in the wrong area, and what I got to find out my little boy is indicating about a week behind (at the time i was 19 weeks 4 days and he indicated as 18 weeks 4 days). and also my fluid is low and that there is too much activity in his large intestines. IDk, has this happened to anyone else? my doc said espeically at 20 to 21 weeks the baby doubles in size but idk. there is a chance i have something thats causing him not to grow at a normal rate. But yeah, she said that there is a 80% chance that nothings wrong and everything will be fine. And i understand wanting to check again for down syndrom and so forth but every single test they have run has come back neg for nething. and all of his parts his brain, etc are all great. idk.. am i worrying too much?

Re: worried...

  • ugh! i hate when dr's will give you scary news but then are very vague about what that means for the rest of your pregnancy! I'm sorry that things are hard right now but I can tell you from my experience w/ my LO being growth restricted (little buddy was diagnosed as at risk for intrauterine growth restriction/IUGR at my 20wk scan and officially diagnosed as IUGR at 26 weeks)

It takes a few scans for them to be able to develop a growth trend--it is pretty common for babies to be measuring a week or even two weeks behind at the 20 week ultrasound, sometimes they just havent had a growth spurt yet (think about if you compare three 1 year olds they could all be drastically different in size depending on which had growth spurts and which hadnt yet) so measuring 1 week behind isnt something to worry about too much (easier said than done, i know)

As for the intestine activity-how do they know this? and as for the fluid levels-this can vary pretty easily, depending on your fluid intake the amniotic fluid levels can rise/drop, there are things they can do to help your fluid levels go up if the need arises so try not to stress too much about that either

As for checking for downs and other chromosomal/genetic issues--keep in mind that dr's HAVE to tell you the worst case scenario to cover their own butts and if they give you the worst case scenario and nothing is wrong than thats great--I will say that if you havent had any markers for downs and havent had any testing that would indicate an issue than I would try not to worry

I know its hard not to worry but just try and stay in the present-for the time being your LO is okay, not having any problems, etc. Try not to worry about things 1) that havent happened yet and 2) are completely out of your control--T&P your way though-keep us updated as to what they decide to do!

thank you so much for that feedback. that deffinitly puts my mind more at ease. like you said, its always a thought in the back of my mind and it worries me but since like you mentioned it takes a few tests. i should be fine. and deffinitly i can see how they want to cover there butts. ill deff. keep everyone updated if anything changes. good luck everyone!

  • My LO measured behind at the 20wk scan also...and that was before it was decided that I very well could be farther along then was thought....

She's still little, but man she's strong.  She is doing quite well, especially considering all we've been through.  So try not to worry.  Consider you and your LO a team...be tough, strong and stay focused on the end game.  Like Lauren said, try not to worry about the things that are out of your control.  It is early on and it doesn't sound like they have enough info to say that something is wrong...so that really is good news.  It might not feel like it, but they DO have to give you the worst-case deal...which totally sucks.  T&P's and healthy  baby dust to you!!

  • they dont have too much to go off of. well besides what they got from my ultra sound. my mom was there and thinks that the baby is fine and was kinda annoyed that they threw stuff out there like that.. possibly just to scare me.. idk. i deffinitly know that they are saying hey! worse case sinerio and that until i get to that point when they say.. you do have an issue is should think positive. and yes, he is very strong. now that im only 20 weeks he likes to let me know that hes in there. hes sitting really low and likes to kick me right on my lower belly. i think its nice that no matter what happens that you have  a reminder that you will always love your little one.
