back sleeper

I am most comfortable sleeping on my back. Has anyone heard that is it bad to sleep on you back while you are pregnant.

Re: back sleeper

  • Its bad later on in pregnancy, but once that point comes it wont be comfy anymore and you'll naturally go to your side most times.  :0)

  • You are perfectly fine sleeping on your back, its not going to hurt baby especially this early on, you'll know when you have to stop because it will be too uncomfortable.
  • I found on a website that says you should start to train yourself to sleep on your left side it benefits you by maximizing the flow of blood and nutrients to the placenta your right side is fine too. To sleep on your side with a pillow between your knees, under your tummy and behind your back. I have had bad heartburn and it also says to sleep prop your upper body up a bit. Let me know if you want the website name its helped me alot
  • You're not suppose to sleep on your back after week 20. It has something to do with it semi cuts off blood flow to the baby and causes breathing harder for you. Now I used to sleep on my sides all the time, but ever since I've been pregnant I keep waking up on my back. Also my doc said its not bad for a little while, but not for long periods of time. Some women say you'll be able to tell when you've been laying on your back too long, but I haven't had that yet even at 28 weeks :/ hope that helps.
  • Try to 'train' yourself to sleep on your side now. Excercise and really tire yourself out, then lay on your back for a few minutes to get sleepy, and roll to your side.

It's better to start to train the habit now than to wait!

Weird - me, too. I've always been a total side sleeper and find myself constantly flipping to my back. I'm only 12 weeks, so it strikes me as weird (my body hasn't shifted very much yet).
