G gets helmet tom

And I am freaking out! I have no idea what to expect. I thought I was prepared for this but now I'm starting to get emotional.

I need some support ladies!

  • Our LO just graduated from his helmet last week. He wore it for seven weeks total. It was really not as bad as I was expecting, and was the best decision we could have made. His before and after pictures showed that it was definitely all worth it.

The best advice I can give is to make sure that you decorate it. That way people aren't afraid to smile at your little one and talk to them like they typically would. I'd also recommend trying to give friends/family a heads up if they are seeing him for the first time. We ran into some friends who didn't know he would be wearing the helmet and they were worried he had a life threatening condition.

Overall, the time went by so quickly and we know that the extra time it took to clean it, etc. has made a lifelong difference for him. I'm typically a lurker,  but feel free to page me if you have any questions. Good luck tomorrow!

  • awww thanks so much! I was wondering if you could tell me what I should expect for tomorrow. What types of questions should i ask?
  • He'll be absolutely fine!  I assure you that it's harder on us than it is on them.  They adjust super quickly.

I second the idea of decorating it!!  Have fun with it.  We get tons of compliments on ours from strangers in the grocery store and such.  We used acrylic paint (make sure it's acrylic since it's non-toxic) and a sealer.  If you put sealer on first, it helps the paint to stick.  And then put a few coats of the paint.  And then sealer on top of that.  If you put stickers on top of paint, putting a coat of modge podge over the stickers helps them stay put.

GL!  Where did you end up getting the helmet from?

  • Everything will be fine! We graduated 2 months ago and I was a dreading the day we got the band. Once he had it on and flashed me his adorable grin, I was over it. They will probably only have you wear it for a few hours at a time for the first couple days so your LO can get used to it.

I agree with decorations. We immediately got some stickers for it. Good luck!

  • We got a starband through CT.

Thanks ladies! I know I am overthinking this!

  • I'd ask about the break-in wearing schedule, what to look for in terms of his skin, cleaning, how to put it on and off, etc. However, they are really good about telling you all of this unprompted, so you may not even have to ask any questions.
