Dallas-Fort Worth Babies

Fort Worth

So we are thinking about relocating to Fort Worth.  I have been through the city and around that area plenty of times but usually just to visit.  Can anyone tell me what the area is like..people, housing, shopping, childcare,  schools (we would be in the Fort Worth Southwest area).  Any comments or thoughts we be greatly appreciated.  TIA

Re: Fort Worth

  • I am in SW Fort Worth (Benbrook, exactly) and love it.

People : Awesome ;) ... there are pockets of really great area and pockets of really bad areas - like most towns.  I think the SW area is great and love that there is minimal traffic.

Housing : I'm not sure what you're used too, so this is a hard one to answer.  There are homes in about every price range and I think your money will get you more in FW than it will in some other large cities.

Shopping : I actually give FW a big thumbs down on this one. I am not big on mall shopping and there are not too many boutiques in FW. I find myself doing my big shopping in Dallas.  But, FW does have your standard mall stores (gap, ATL, dillards, etc.) so it really depends on your taste.

Childcare/School : N/A for me since we have a baby on the way I really can't comment with any facts.  I know that we are leaning toward private school over FWISD, but only time will tell if we end up doing that.

  • I am from SW Ft Worth and love it. We are moving back once our house sells... to Crowley ISD area. We will be in the Dallas Park Elem. area. email me if you have questions! meagan.lewis@coldwellbanker.com I am typing one handed feeding my LO or I could go on and on about the area!
  • I can give you some information about the west side of FW.

Housing is slightly more expensive on the west side (around TCU, Camp Bowie area, including Ridglea, Ridglea Hills and Ridgmar) but it a better location for resale, because you are closer to down town, as well as mall and non-mall shopping.  The good elementaries in Fort Worth ISD are Lilly B. Clayton, Tanglewood (excellent), Ridglea Hills.  I have also heard pretty good things about Burton Hill Elementary.  The houses in these areas are typically older and a little more pricey (usually over $250k) because of the location.
