Preemies

Let me introduce myself...

Hi everyone!

I just wanted to introduce myself.  My name is Kristen and I am a new mother of a little girl named Amaya.  She was born on January 13th at 31 weeks to the day.  At 29 weeks, 5 days, I had no idea that my water had broken and I began to bleed.  It turns out that I had a placental abruption and was contracting every 3 minutes!  I was hospitalized and on strict bed rest for 10 days before I had her via c-section.

Not only is Amaya a preemie....my husband and I found out at our 20 week ultrasound that she also had two birth defects, neither of which were chromosomal or genetic.  Right now I am sitting in the NICU in Philadelphia, Pa as I have been since Jan. 13th and I am so happy to say that Amaya is doing well....but we have a long road ahead of us.  I have been lurking around this board for the past couple of days and really wanted to get to know some of you because I know what you are going through!  I love reading all of your stories and wish you all the best!

Kristen :)

  • Good Luck and congratulations, I am glad your daughter is doing well. I hope that her birth defects are something that are managable. The "Special Needs" board here is slow but has some great support also.

We found out about DS kidney issues at our 20 week u/s also and it helped get us ready and we had some time to prepare and pick the doctors we wanted to use even though because he came early a prenatal consultation with a doctor wound up being an actual exam of the baby.

  • Congratulations on the birth of your daughter.
