Kitten80

Since your in the biz I have a question about the ENT that DD is going to see. He is not a pediatric ENT but has worked with kids before in the past. He is the only ENT around that takes DDs insurance. Is their a difference in care with a non ped ENT? TIA

Re: Kitten80

  • :o) You paged me, that is awesome.  That made my Monday (sad, huh?!).  You should be good with the ENT as long as he has worked with children in the past!  The ped vs. non-ped ENT is more about specialization - but they both have the knowledge needed.  When they are available, ped ENTs are nice to see because they obviously spend more time with kids and the families and so they may be more prepared for your questions, concerns, may use more generic terms that familis can understand, and may have more tricks for keeping LOs happy and compliant.  However, tubes is a very routine procedure and if your ENT has experience with children, I am sure he will be fine.  And, sometimes, the ones who don't work with kids all day are less burnt out on the same-old-same-old and that can work to your advantage too.

Feel free to ask him what percent of his caseload has been pediatrics and to share his experience with this procedure, if you are concerned.  And don't be afraid to ask questions or to ask him if you don't understand any of the terms.  GL!  Feel free to PM me if you have other questions.

  • 1) Im glad I made your day!

    2) Thanks for you advice! I know its a routine surgery but I cant help but feel a little nervous. Its not so much the surgery that makes me nervous its how DD will deal with going under or having her head held down. I dont want her to feel scared.

    Crap. Now Im tearing up.

  • Awww. I totally understand!  Make sure you stay positive around her and that will help her be less scared.  My clients said putting them under wasn't as bad as they thought and they were overly worried.  As for DD, the good thing is she won't remember!  :o) Just give her some great reward and cuddles after for being so brave.  Its funny how these little beings can totally tug our heart strings.
