  • The easiest way to do it is when baby is sleeping.  RSV usually makes them sleepy so it is relatively easy to do it when baby is asleep.  We also used the mouthpiece instead of the mask and let her chew on it.  She "gave herself" many breathing treatments!

  • The Albuterol is like crack to her or something, she is SUPER hyper and excited all the time so shes not sleeping like she usually does. But I will try taking off the mask, thanks
  • We try to do them when he goes to sleep but I also will have toys or Veggie Tales on to distract him. He also does well when I let him keep his paci in. In my experience, holding DS down only made it worse. Allow breaks if needed, sometimes we'll split his up if he gets cranky.

It will get better! To the PP, was your mouthpiece not too big? The one they gave us looked huge but I need to look at it again and maybe try it out.

  • Nope, it was the child-sized one.  Ask for it if that isn't what you got!

Also, we did a lot of it with her binky in too.

She's feeling better if the Albuterol is making her hyper.  This happened to us too.  That's when we stopped doing it in the middle of the night!!!

  • We're still doing the nebulizer treatments, but DS is pretty much over this RSV crap finally.

Basically, when DH and I are both at home, one of us sits DS on our lap while the other one reads him a book or entertains him with toys/peek-a-boo/songs, etc.  When only one of us is home, we keep several toys within arm's reach and basically "juggle" holding DS and use the free hand to entertain with toys.

We're not big on DS watching TV (he's not really interested anyway), but we've also found that if Dora the Explorer or Go Diego Go is on Nick Jr, we can get him to focus on that for at least 1/2 of the time.  This is definitely worth the exception to our no TV rule.
