She gave me my paper with my food plan that outlines how many starches, veggies, proteins, fats to eat.
For my afternoon snack she said I should have a carb of 11-20 grams and that's it. She said I don't need a protien with it. I was surprised since I've been reading that you should always have a protein with your carbs no matter what. WDYT?
Also I don't drink milk (or eat yogurt, cottage cheese) so she said I'd have to substitute something there for my carb count which is fine. So we talked about just adding fruit or whatever in it's place. My only concern is that I won't be getting as many calories from the fruit as I would have gotten from the milk. Do you think it's an issue?
Re: GD- had my class with the nutritionist -couple ??s
I was told the same thing about not needing to add a protein for my snacks. She said it was fine to do so, but not something that was a must. I was a little surprised too, but guessed it's just a personal choice.
I'm not sure about the milk part though. I love milk so I don't have any problems there.
I was told 15 grams of carbs or under for a snack didn't have to be balanced w/protein - so sometimes I have a sugar-free pudding cup w/o protein - but if it is my snack before bed - I always have protein to help my fasting number.
Also, I can't do milk (lactose intolerant - not even lactaid worked for me) so I do calcium fortified soy milk instead. You could ask if this is an option for you...
thanks!
I have another question-- hopefully someone sees this.
Do I take my levels an hour after I start my meal or an hour after I finish my meal?
My plan says an hour after I start eating... however as long as I'm close to an hour I'm not too concerned. Sometimes it just works out that I can't take it exactly at an hour.
