Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Refusing bottle at 6 months ?

First, we have an appointment today. #2 started refusing her bottle (and breast) last week. At daycare W- 7oz, Th-2.5oz, F-6.5oz is all she ate all day from 7am to 4pm, when she gets home she will eat some & eats her cereal & veggies great & then nurses about 2x at night.  This weekend, she did the same to me, I did get her to eat from a bottle while she was sleeping. She is on an antibotic for an ear infection.  Anyone else have/had an issue like this ?

Re: Refusing bottle at 6 months ?

  • Sounds like an ear infection that has not gone away yet. DS would still eat solids but the sucking on the bottle hurt his ears which is how we knew he had an ear infection or that it did not go away. Right now ear infections are very common.

This last ear infection did not go away with two differernt oral anitibotics so we had to give him the shots which cleared it up but we have a appointment wed with an ENT.

  • Unfortunately, yes.  AJ started refusing a bottle a little after he turned 6 months old.  It got to the point where I had to spoon feed him the entire bottle.  Torture!!  There was nothing wrong with him.  He just didn't want it anymore.

I can barely get him to drink the required 24 oz. each day even now.  I refuse to spoon feed him anymore so he does take his bottles but usually doesn't finish them (I end up having to sneak in an ounce or two mixed in with his solids).  I don't know why, the dr. doesn't know why... This is just the way he is.  He is much more interested in solids and doesn't want the bottle (and will only drink water out of the sippy cup).

Hopefully your daughter won't be this bad.  It does get easier, just don't resort to spoon feeding if possible because it is a hard habit to break.

    GL!

  • Thanks for the info, I was thinking maybe the ear infection was sticking around.
