Success after IF

Beta Integrin 3 testing?

Thanks to Shell, I have another straw to grasp and chase. ;-)

I saw the post the other day about endo patients taking Depot Lupron to help with their beta integrin receptor sites. Makes sense.

Jen, I saw your note too about how you do not have endo, but still did it. (I do not have endo)

How's the test done? just blood or biopsy? I imagine it falls under IF, so the expense of the test could be an issue. I"ve always thought I am just dealing with chitty p4 and lazy ovulation... but I'm willing to look into this.

What else can you tell me about it? (lurkers most welcome, please)

Re: Beta Integrin 3 testing?

  • TTGP had this done.  Hopefully she can help.

CCRM didn't think I needed it done because I actually achieved implantation (with my chemicals).

After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!

TTGP also had chemical/implantation as well though. She is the best person to talk to about it. I will email her and tell her to get her butt on here. It sounded like it was like a biopsy.

  • Jen/TTGP already shared her thoughts on that other thread HERE.

Although wonderful insight, Iz wantz more.

  • I was wondering if you meant TTGP when you said Jen.

I know nothing about that test.

  • Preface: -I have endo

Beta Integrin 3 testing is done through a biopsy. However some RE strongly support it and some do not. When I took this to my RE she shot down the theory. However ,centers like CCRM where i got a second opinion strongly support it ( fyi there is only one lab that does it, its in CA and it think there is some link bet CCRM and them).

Anyways, CCRM unique approach is they administer DL for 2-3 months after the ER but before the ET (while you are waiting for the CGH testing results). The belief is , it gives enough time to flush things out while still getting benefits of DL.

But there is another method this is done. I ran into a couple of cases who used DL right before the IVF cycle and had success. So I took that theory and went to my RE. I did 3 months of DL and straight into a antagonist(ganirelix) protocol for IVF, no BCP and here I am.

In short, I think adding DL right before IVF and not taking BCPs(over suppression avoided) was the key to my success.

Sidenote:-For my first IVF cycle I did 6 months of DL(for endo) before the IVf cycle but there was a gap of 3-4 months between the last shot and the stims.I think this was a bad idea. IVF cycle needs to start a month after the last shot for best effect. And you need to take 2 or 3 monthly shots instead of one 3 months shot (low vs high dose)

  • Hi there!

Sorry I'm late.........I was dealing with a virus at work. :)

Anyway, yes, it's a biopsy. It's a 10 second scraping of your uterus. It's painful, but it's totally worth it. The only lab that processes the results are in CA. CCRM does not have a joint relationship with them. Every practice that uses beta 3 integrin testing uses this lab - think SIRM and other top clinics.

I know you saw my post. I do think this is the reason we are pg. Like Babbs said, I did have a c/p after IVF #1. My RE said that c/p's and BFN's are definitely signs of a failing uterine lining. They now think the only reason I m/c'd after IVF #1 was because of my lining (my eggs were fine after CGH testing). I know I wouldn't be pg if we didn't do this treatment.

As for when to do DL, that is up to you. I had the choice to do the DL before or after my ER. I have read many posts about egg quality declining before an ER with DL. I didn't want to risk that since we didn't know if I had good eggs or not. It looks like it worked fine for Pria though.......

I'm not sure what an RE would say since you already have Ava, but things can always change. My RE has given us up to a 50% chance of getting pg on our own next since there is a possibility that my integrins will be in tact from here on out. There is a chance that might not happen too. So, there is definitely a chance that yours could have headed south after Ava.

In my opinion, just one more reason to have a phone consult with CCRM :)

  • thanks ladies.

well, I think it's fair to say that SHOULD we have to move forward with IVF (over my dead body) this is something I should have tested and discuss.

very interesting stuff. Tell me again the tale of when the girl got drunk at a party and ended up pregnant? I love to hear ol' wives tales like that.

LOL seriously Davez you crack me up every time you post!!!

But Jenny is correct, DL before IVF does risk the chance of poor quality eggs. But since I produce a gazillion of those, I took a chance that atleast some maybe good. I did however have to stim on high dosage of GonalF,partly to cut short my long stim period and partly I guess to counteract DL effects.

Yep its quite something to think about.
