Croup questions

IG sounds like she MAY have croup.

Her cough is wet but she sounds like a seal.  The dr said at one point that croup sounds like a bark but is it wet?

Re: Croup questions

  • sounds like a seal.  when dd wakes up with it (she did Sat) I know from the sound of her first cough.  not like a cold's cough, like a seal bark
  • How is croup treated?

  • My kids are the king and queen of croup... I feel like it is never ending in this house.

We usually try to wait one day and see how they are doing with breathing. If I do not see that they are struggling, pulling at their ribs or collar bone area, and I do not hear a high pitch noise and they otherwise seem comfortable, I treat them with alternating a steamy bathroom and going outside in the cold.

With that said, If they are having alot of coughing fits or just seem really lethargic and having a hard time we always go to the Dr.

There is a three day steriod that they get alot that helps to open the upper airway.

Croup is essentially a virus that settles from a cold in the larynx area, hence the barking sound, so I treat their cold symptoms and fever accordingly.

    Hope your day gets better!

Grace was hospitlized last year for three days, trust your instincts.

  • She's been really pissy and angry and fighting with her brother and she's been an all around mean child.  Idk if its because she feels bad or what...lol.
  • Last time DD had croup I took her to the pedi and she was put on a steroid for 2 days.

By the afternoon of the first day she was already 100 times better.
