Sleep HELP!

I am having a hard time with sleep training DD.  We tried several no cry methods early on, which didn't work at all.  Then we did HSHHC and it worked like a charm.  She cried the first three nights and then slept for at least 6-8 hours.

After about 10 days of good sleep, she ended up with two ear infections, strep throat, roseola and then another ear infection (about 3 weeks of sick).  We have been trying HSHHC again, but I am having a hard time letting her cry because I am afraid she might be getting sick again.  I know intellectually that she is ok, I'm just having a hard time listening to her cry now.

Anyone successful with sleep training a second time after illness?

Re: Sleep HELP!

  • How long ago was her infection?  Because if it was really recent, I wouldn't even be thinking about sleep training.  She'll need extra comfort and knowing that you are there when she's upset will help bring her that comfort!

She got the all clear from her doctor last week (which was 2wk follow up).

  • Okay, that's great, first of all!  Glad she is feeling better after all that time!

Maybe she's still extra needy because of her recent illness (very traumatic for a baby, I'm sure!).  I am not a fan of sleep training in general, but if I were doing it, I'd probably wait another week or so before trying it again.  Give her a chance to recover emotionally and mentally.   If she cries at night, at least go in and talk to her, rub her tummy, etc.
