Progesterone Pill vs Mini-Pill

I went Wednesday for my PP check up and my ob recommended me getting on a Progesterone pill.  When I referenced it as a mini-pill, she corrected me calling it a Progesterone pill again.  What's the difference?  Everything on the internet calls it the Mini-Pill.

Also, I read some of the warnings on the medicine.  One of the warnings said that if you are breast feeding this drug will pass on to the baby.  Does anyone know the side effects in the babies?  I'm hesitant to take this pill due to this warning.

Re: Progesterone Pill vs Mini-Pill

  • the mini-pill is a progesterone only pill. reg. b/c has estrogen too. HTH!

  • The Mini-Pill is a brand of Progesterone Pill.  Any oral bc will pass into breast milk, but it is thought that the amounts are so small that there are no side effects to LO.  HTH.
  • I don't know the answer to the first part, but I was told that the "safest" bc pill for bf'ing is progesterone-only. And that is what my doc recommended to me. I should be able to get some at my pp appt, since my pp bleeding seems to be letting up/stopping now.
