Nuvaring users...HALP! possible tmi!

My doctor gave me a sample to see if I like it for the month. I just feel like it's not in far enough. I can't feel it or anything, but I feel like I'm going to be paranoid and keep trying to push it up further. Any tricks for getting it in further? I told DH we might have to have some sexy time tonight because that's the only thing I can think of to get it way up there! He's pumped...lol. Me, not so much! I guess my fingers are long enough? EWWWW!

  • This is my first month using it and I've had problems with putting it up far enough. I check it all the time because I'm so paranoid! One time when I was going to the bathroom (sorry for TMI) it was almost popping out! I'm going to give it one more month but I'm not entirely sure it's for me. At least with the pill I knew I was swallowing it and it wasn't going anywhere!

  • obviously i am not using it now, but i did use it for about a year. sometimes i would not get it in far enough and would have to take it out and reinsert. if you are nervous and tense up it doesn't get in all the way.

i also used to hold it in my hand for a minute or two to warm it up so it was more pliable and then sort of fold it between two fingers to insert it, and once it was partway in just use one finger to push it in all the way. that may be TMI also but i don't how to discreetly explain it - lol!

  • If you can't feel it, I think it's probably in right.  I used to use it and I never had any issues with it falling out.  You don't need to use sex to cram it up against your cervix lol.

BTW, you can take it out for foreplay and sex, as long as you remember to put it back in once you are done.

For me at least, as long as I couldn't feel it and the ring actually popped back into a circle it never fell out at all.

(On a side note I gained weight and it KILLED my libido)

  • My girlfriend uses it and she said her doctor suggested to use a tampon applicator. Pop the tampon out, put the nuvaring in, insert and then use the plunger just like you would a tampon. She says this is how her doctor puts hers in too.

Sweet! That just might do the trick!

  • I think there's a learning curve to it. The first time I used it, I was freaked out. Now I can't feel it at all and forget about it most of the time.

It did kill my libido in the beginning, but it's coming back. I also had and still have some mood swings, but that might just be my personality Stick out tongue. I haven't gained weight on it.

And Iris is right, lol. You don't need to have sex to cram it up into your cervix.

  • The first time you use it, you feel that way. I know I did. I pushed it up there until I couldn't feel it anymore. I then had sex with DH to make sure it was up there far enough, and that helped me feel more at ease. I was told it is up there far enough when you can't feel it anymore.

Ditto all of this. (Just make sure it's not out for more than 3 hrs at a time.)

  • I hated it because I was always worried it had fallen out. I would get my period while it was still needing to be in. Once it fell out and down the toilet when I took my tampon out.

Why would you have the ring in at the same time as a tampon?

I take my ring out on Tuesdays. I get my period that following Sunday. I put my ring back in on Tuesday and still have my period.

Some people still have AF when they have to put their ring back in.
