High-Risk Pregnancy

Who is not very big or showing a lot yet?

I'm 28 weeks in and this week I found out about the GD. So I thought the whole purpose is to help the baby not be the size of a large bag of dog food. I'm eating six times a day and my numbers have been pretty good. I have only gained 12 pounds so far and I will probably lose some because my eating habits have drastically changed due to the GD.

Everybody thinks I should have gained a lot more weight and look a lot bigger by now. I think LO is more of a laying across me baby than poking out baby. And I sure can tell I'm pregnant. What is your response when people tell you you need to eat more or gain weight? And PS the doc thinks I'm on track.

Re: Who is not very big or showing a lot yet?

  • Um, I start crying or snap at them...depending on who it is.  If it's a friend that should know better because she knows my situation than I snap.  If it's a stranger, I escape and cry on DH's shoulder or to my Mom on the phone.  These may not be the best ways to handle it, but I'm sensitive about it.

Try not to let it bug you.  If your doc is ok with you, then all should be fine!!

People would say I had such a cute bump but then my bump kind of peaked and we found out the baby was growth restricted--now Ive realized that I havent grown since like 24 weeks or so--it stinks to have people make comments either way ("wow youre big!" or "youre so tiny!") Dont people realize that pregnant women are self-conscious enough about how they look that they dont need strangers weighing in on their physical appearance--ugh!

  • I don't think I am very big considering how far along I am with twins.  Of course no one says anything because I don't go out, but I did get comments before.  I guess it didn't bother me because I was so worried I would turn into a gigantic marshmallow with pregnancy that I was relieved to look "small."  Plus, the babies have been measuring perfectly every time, and that is what is most important.

When people would say something I would just say, "well, fortunately they are just the right size!"

  • Personally, I find the eating comments to be the most annoying.  It annoys me when ppl tell me that I am eating for two so I can eat what I want or eat those donuts or whatever.  This is the time in my life where my eating matters the most b/c if I eat badly, not only am I feeding myself badly, but I am feeding my child badly.  Would I want to feed my child donuts? No.  So, I don't eat it.  I don't understand why ppl make food comments/judgments, esp. those who are mothers who, in my opinion, should know better.
  • Is this your first pregnancy? My friend is now 9 months, but I remember when she told us at 4 months she was pregnant, I couldnt even tell! She was always VERY thin and did not start showing until late.I think with first pregnancies, pple tend to carry smaller.

It is possible you carry small - no? What did your doctor say? Everyone is different. I remember when my mother gave birth, people were so shocked - noone knew she had been expecting because she gained so little weight!
