Anyone care to send me a link on why extended rear facing is so important. I plan to keep Nicholas rear facing for as long as possible past one year. So I don't need convincing. It's my sister and my mom. When I work one of them usually has Nicholas and I was talking to my sister today about her and my mom sharing a convertible seat. I said "So you guys are going to have to just switch the car seats between the 2 cars depending on who has Nicholas that day". Then I said "Oh and Nicholas will be rear facing for a while".
My sister says "yeah til March (when he turns one)". I said "Oh no. That's not the current recommendation" Now they say until 2. So here is how the rest of the conversation went:
Sis: 2?! What happens when his feet hit the seat? He'll break his legs"
Me: YOu can fix a broken leg, not a broken neck, he can cross his legs.
Sis: Isn't the weight limit like 1 year or 20 lbs?
Me: There is new info that says rear facing past one year
Sis: What info? Something someone made up?
Me: No.
Okay so ladies please back me up here and tell me (or actually my sister/mom) why rear facing is recommended. Links would be appreciated too. I don't need convincing but need something to convince my sister/and mom
Re: Extended rear facing
First of all, tell your sister that the minimum limit for forward facing is one year AND 20 lbs, not one or the other. It also sounds like she thinks that's the maximum limit for RF, not the minimum limit for FF.
Then have her watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2DVfqFhseo
And here's a link to an AAP article on extended RF: https://aapnews.aappublications.org/cgi/content/full/30/4/12-a
thanks for sharing these links, both DH and I are 100% commited to L beign rear facing till he reaches the limit of the carseat.
I took a new mommy course at the local health unit and when we were discussing carseat safety te nurse said they had to rear face till 20 lbs (the law in our province sadly) bu tthey reccomend it for a year. I interjected that the US receantly changed their reccomendation to 2 years and that L would be rear facing till 40lbs, the limit of our seat. The nurse said to me, 40lbs! thats ridiculous he will be bored looking at the seat! i replied that he wouldn't know the difference, i can't believe this women teaches carseay safety, i will be sharing this link with the other mom's in the class.
can i ask if the seats in your link are in a particular order?
Not really, but I do prefer the TrueFit over most of the others so I suppose that's why I put it first
If I ranked them based on my personal preferences, I think they would be:
-TrueFit
-Radian
-MyRide
-Boulevard
-Compete Air
-Triumph Advance
-Coccoro (although this is the only seat I have not had a chance to use personally, so it might rank higher if I did).
