Illinois Babies

hello ladies, most likely moving your way

Hi! I lived in chicago several years ago and then moved to NYC. It looks like we might be moving back to the chicago area. DH will be working in north suburb, so we've been looking at houses in highland park area. I would really appreciate some OB recommendations as well as hospitals for delivery. Also, if you live in the northern suburbs, where are you and what do you like about your area? I'm not thrilled to do the suburb thing at this point, but I also remember how dreadful the chicago traffic can be if DH were to commute from the city.

thanks!

Re: hello ladies, most likely moving your way

  • OB rec - Dr. Adam Cohan, Westmoreland OB/Gyn, 847.234.9110 - the office is on the campus of Lake Forest Hospital - I switched to this practice when I got pregnant based on recommendations from several friends.  There are 4 doctors in the practice - 2 female and 2 male.  I really like all of them, but Dr. Cohan is my favorite.  He ended up doing my c/s because DD was breech.

Hospital - I delivered at Lake Forest Hospital and had a wonderful experience.

DH and I live in Northbrook, which I really like.  You can't really go wrong with any northern burb.  If you want more of a city feel, I would look into Evanston.  Otherwise, Winnetka, Glenview, Wilmette,  Lincolnshire, Highland Park, Lake Forest, Lake Bluff, Vernon Hills, Libertyville, etc., are all good choices.

If you have any questions, let me know.  Good luck!

  • For the life of me, I can't remember the name of my Ob/Gyne right this second, but it's also in one of the Westmoreland medical buildings at Lake Forest Hospital. My planner is in my car (which is with my DH right now, lol), so as soon as I can look up her name I'll let you know.

Also, I live in Libertyville and love it here. We are walking distance to Metra and it's about a 50 minute ride on an express/about an hour on a regular schedule. We have a cute downtown with a library, tons of little shops and restaurants. DH grew up here (went to Carmel H.S.) and I grew up in the next town over (Vernon Hills, but went to Libertyville H.S.). HTH!

  • Thank you both for your help and recommendations!

  • I live in Lake Forest but will be delivering at Evanston Hospital because they have Midwives that practice there.  My normal OB is Heather Heiberger, who delivers at Lake Forest Hospital, and she is great.  But, I wanted another natural, intervention-free birth...which left me choosing Evanston and a group of midwives who operate out of Glenview and Evanston.
  • I know what you mean not being thrilled about liviging in the suburbs, but I think you'll grow to love it! I moved from Chicago to NYC and then to Libertyville (northern suburbs), so it was a bit of a culture shock at first. Same reasoning though, DH works in this area, and it just wasn't worth the commute from the city. But 5 years later, I'm finding that I love it! So many of the northern suburbs have great little downtowns with cute boutiques and restaurants, and it really is easy to get downtown whenever you want, whether you're driving or taking the train.

As far as OB and hospital recs, I love my practice - ObGyne of Lake Forest. https://www.obgynelakeforest.com/ They are on the Lake Forest Hospital campus, and are a practice of 4 women (Holden, Heiberger, Oh, and Huang), and 1 man (Hubble). They have you rotate through all of them, and I have had good experiences with all 5. Dr. Huang is my favorite though. Lake Forest Hospital is fantastic, (at least it has been through my pregnancy - I'll find out soon about delivery!) as is Highland Park Hospital, which you'll probably get a lot of recs for too.

Good luck with your choices and your move!
