hit me straight... how bad is the amnio?

My amnio is 8 days away and I am wondering what to expect.  Over the past year and a half, I have been on the receiving end of several hundred injections (both sub Q and IM) and countless blood draws and IVs.  I used to be a needle phobe prior to all that, but am much better now. 

How much does it hurt?  How quickly does it all happen?  I know I'll head to triage afterward for an NST, but beyond that, I have no clue what to expect!

 


After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!

    I had it for a singleton and didn't think it was bad at all.  Anticipation was much worse than reality.  Not sure how much worse it is with twins but I didn't find it painful at all.  I didn't even know it was over until they told me- it happened that fast.

    I thought PIO shots were MUCH worse than the amnio injection.  GL!

    Oh good!  PIO is a piece of cake for me, so I am hoping the same holds true for the amnio.  I am glad they are only testing one baby so I don't have to get poked twice.   :)

    I had to have two because of twins and it was honestly not bad at all. Honestly I don't even remember it hurting. But I was also beside myself because that is when we learned we were having twins! The amnio was set up for one and they scanned by belly and said, "how many did they tell you you were having?". "There are two babies, you're having twins!"

    I agree, no pain just pressure.  They did an amnio on both twins and it was so quick.  They guide it by ultrasound, use tons of betadine to clean the area, and they only use the needle to puncture the sack, then it is a tiny hollow tube that collects the fluid.  Ha ha PIO shots hurt a lot, this did not.  You just have regular injection site pain for the day and rest and that is about it.  Just relax and look at the screen, not at your abdomen.  You will do great and you are so close to meeting your babies, yay!!

    I am the BIGGEST baby ever and i can not believe how painless it was!!! I was only 12 weeks at the time... (the drs told me both babies might have downs, which they didnt)... I cried the whole time in the waiting room becasue i was so scared... The prep is scary cause you just lay there and it takes a while so you get nervous. It hurt less than having a mole removed from the dermatologist and i didnt have the numbing stuff... The only thing is that when i got home i was reallly crampy... Thats it! I SWEAR!!

    I would do it again in a heart beat if I had to, but for me it hurt like a b*%&$.

    My DH said you went through labor with our DD and had her vaginally - this should be a piece a cake.

    Umm - with labor I had drugs - lots and lots of drugs.

    I was about 15 weeks - so I am not sure how different it is when you are further along, but it didn't hurt when it was going through the skin, but it really hurt when they went through the ute.

    In addition when they were done with the first 1, I then had to do the second one.

    I consider myself to high level for pain tolorence also.  Everyone is just different I think.
