we used ALOT the first few weeks. I would maybe get 1 big box of newborns, and maybe 1-2 big boxes of size 1s. My daughter was only in Newborns the first few weeks, then she grew out of them. I'm glad we didn't open more than one big box, or we would've been stuck with a whole bunch!!
Figure you'll use about 12 diapers a day the first few day (sometimes, in the middle of changing, they will pee all over the brand new diaper lol). What helped us was the first 2 weeks, we recorded EVERY dirty/wet diaper. That way we knew an estimate of how many we used a day and how many we'd need to buy. Plus, it helped us when we went to the pedi's, they always ask how many wet diapers, how many bowel movements,e tc...
Just to give you some perspective: Henry was 8lb 9oz and 19.75in at birth. We used newborn diapers for 2 weeks and used about 10 a day...so roughly 140 newborn diapers.
He was in size 1 diapers until the beginning of Dec...so a month and a half at 10 a day...450 size ones.
He was in size 1/2 diapers (from Sams) for the month of Dec...so around 300 diapers
Now he's in 2's
Now all diapers will run different and you have to remember that. Pampers are smaller than the Target Up&Up brand. I'm not sure about Huggies. If you can try to get some samples now so you can test each kind out before opening a huge pack.
We have a 56-pack and a 72-pack of NB size, and our friends threw in a pack of size 1's in a gift basket we received. I figure that's roughly 2 weeks (conservative estimate) of NB, anyway. If they last longer, then that will be cool. I was considering posting this question on 0-3 board, but why don't you RP yours over there and see what the experienced girls have to say. I bet they know for sure at this point!
All I have to say is I stocked up and ended up with a ton of "left over" in different sizes, since they grow soo fast in the beginning they FLY through sizes (pampers) Newborn-3...then they slow down...since it only goes to size 6 or something. I would not really stock up on the first few sizes, just buy the big box and wait, because they really do grow fast, and if you look at the pounds on the box the sizes overlap.
I've been home from the hospital since Thursday and have already used a 20 pack of diapers. I was given a pack of 50 at my baby shower and my mom bought me a pack of 36 before I had my son. Just to give you a round-about idea (everyone is different, though).
None. The hospital will send you home with tons of newborn diapers. I didn't use diapers I actually bought until DD was about 3 weeks old.
If anything, you can stock up on bigger sizes, but you have no idea how long you'll be in each size. DD wasn't in size 2 for very long, nor 3, but spent a lot of time in size 4.
Do whatever makes you rest comfortably with your preparations, but, honestly, we just bought one large pack of NB size (I think there are 84). I'll just run out or send hubby out to pick up more from Target when we need them. It's not like there aren't a million stores selling diapers, all around the same prices. The only thing I wouldn't stock up on is Huggies, if you're having a boy. Our experience was that they leaked really badly on our son but were ok for a girl!

Not necessarily
