Not a Liam mommy, but I am not sure why it matters. There are plenty of people with sons named Adam or Noah that are not Jewish, Richards that are not English, etc etc.
I did not look at the origin of a name before choosing it. I had a pretty well rounded list as well.
A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

Not a Liam mom, but I know many people who have babies named Liam and they aren't Irish. Just recently my good friend from HS named him son Liam and he and his wife are Mexican.
My nephew is also Liam. I don't think his parents are Irish, but his Dad's name is John and Liam is appearantly the Irish version of John (that's what they said, anyway)

Ha, Liam is the Irish/Gaelic version of William, not John. Either you misunderstood or your friends are misinformed.

No, I didn't misunderstand, they must've been misinformed

I am an all american mutt with some Irish mixed in. My family would say I was mostly Irish, mainly because of my last name (classic Irish) and my mother's maiden name (Murphy). I have very Irish first and middle names. We did not choose Liam because of this though. I have loved the name since highschool (many many moons ago). I do like several Irish/Gaelic boy names, not so crazy over Irish girl names.....
My DH has a German last name but I think is Irish and Dutch as well?? So my Liam has a German last name....

Yeah, I don't think Liam = John. Liam is a form or nn of William.
my cousin is a Liam, he is not Irish at all (German actually) but his father is William and wanted his son to be a william as well, but my aunt didnt agree, so they used the last 4 letters in William ... Wil-LIAM thats how he got his name and i love the name!!

Thanks for the feedback - we are naming our son William, but we will call him Liam. DH is Irish (mom was born there and dad's parents were too) and it's not a name I thought of before he mentioned it. I like William, but I don't like Bill. Just wondering how others came to the conclusion to use it.

While I am a fan of Liam, Will is also a great nn for William.

Agreed. I don't know where my dislike of Bill came from. Will is cool.
