Weight and bedrest

Clearly I am not all that far along and it isn't a big concern yet, but I lost about 11 pounds by week 8 and then gained two back around the holidays (when my mom was here, showing food in my face Stick out tongue).  those came back off as soon as she left, and I noticed today that I have lost almost another pound.  I was not super skinny to begin with (but I also wasn't hugely overweight)  How has your weight gain gone since you have been on bedrest?  Did you lose a little weight from lost muscle tone?  Did you end up gaining more weight from being less active?  and are there any different weight expectations if you end up being on bedrest for a long time?  Thanks!!!  (ahh...the things that roll through your mind when you are stuck on the couch!)

Re: Weight and bedrest

  • It took me some time to start gaining weight.  This past week, I made a conscious effort to eat higher-fat foods, and I did gain 3 lbs after about 4 weeks of not gaining at all.  I am convinced a lot of the weight staying the same is because my muscles are turning to mush.

  • Thanks Becca!! I'm glad that you are finding a way to gain some weight! Were you cleared to do any of the stretches and arm lifts and such? I have a friend who was on bedrest for around five months due to an emergency cerclage and I remember her talking about a few exercises they gave her to help with muscle tone. Hang in there! You are doing great!! ( and stay in there little ones!!!)
