need a break.

So, DH had a work dinner last night.  He pretty much had to go because it was a special invitation with some of the bigwigs at his company.  No biggie.

But the kids were complete train wrecks the entire day yesterday, Audrey threw her lunch on the ground, Mitch threw temper tantrum after tantrum.  I tried to change the scenery, do things with them, but nothing....they just were pills and I"m sure its partially because we haven't seen the sun for 2 weeks or longer...I literally cannot remember.

DH didn't get home until 1:00.  Dinner turned into drinks afterwards and a company paid for cab ride home and company paid for cab to the office this morning.....so DH is already gone to work, and the kids are continuing to be....for lack of better word....brats.

I can't take another day of tantrums and misbehavior.

What can we do when its drizzling outside and cold??? That is kid friendly so I won't be embarrased for temper tantrums???

  • Turn the furniture on its side and make forts with blankets.

My crabbyass kids are currently playing in the boxes from the new car seats. The family room looks like a garbage dump, but they are not whining for the moment.

  • Would you be comfortable by yourself taking them to a hotel with an indoor kiddie pool?  I know some of the ones with waterparks here let you pay just to swim.

Or just have a pj day and let them have a "no rules" kind of day.  Let them make a mess, pick what they want to eat, etc.  Within reason, of course, and then make picking up into a fun game.

Take them to the Chipmunk movie?

I'm sorry!  I hope your day is better today.  It is the worst when you try so hard to do something nice for them, and they just act awful.

  • Can you take the kids out to lunch somewhere that has an indoor play area?

  • Do you have a zoo near you?  Our zoo is almost empty during the winter but the animals tend to be way more active.  We go to the indoor buildings like the monkeys and the fish and I let the girls run their little feet off.
  • i'm sorry r. i know that's rough. i take amarah to places like chick-fil-a so she can play like a pp mentions. she can run around and be loud b/c it's enclosed. sometimes we go to the play area at the mall and i just stay close to the side i'm parked for a quick getaway *if* a meltdown ensues.  when i wasn't working one thing i found that was fun was to tape blank paper to the underside of the table and let her lay under it and color. i did it with her and it was actually really relaxing. the inflatable bounce place is good if they have open play and it's not too expensive (worth it for two or thre hours if it keeps them out of your hair so you can catch a breath). since tantrums are usually inevitable for us, if they happen i just smile and say "kids" and keep walking. gl. • movie afternoon-turn off the lights, big bowl of popcorn or snack, etc.

pitch a tent in the living room and have a "camp out"

forts are fun, or if you have a big box like Lari is doing you can use markers & crayons to make it into something (house, space ship, pirate ship, whatever)

    bake cookies

good luck!  these are some things I've done.
