Multiples

Please give me encouraging stories

Today is my first full day of bed rest at 22 weeks for shorting, funneling cervix.  I am SO worried and anxious that the boys may not make it.  So if you were in a simular situation with your multiples, please share.  I have never been so scared in my life.

  • I'm sorry that you are having to deal with this.  I went on bedrest at 23 weeks for a shortening cervix.  I made it to 36w2d when I was induced.  I had 2 healthy boys only one of them had to stay in the NICU for 24 hours because of his low birthweight (4lbs 6oz.)  Just take it easy and one day at a time.

  • I had a shortening funneling cervix at 24 weeks with our twins. I started strict bedrest then and was in and out of the hosoital 3 times for a total 19 days of hospital rest. The boys were born at 35 weeks on my first day off of bedrest and they spent 6 days in the nicu, but are healthy happy little boys now.

Make sure you do what your doctor says and keep the pressure off your cervix. Are they seeing you more often and doing more frequent cervical ultrasounds?

  • I went on strict bedrest at 23 weeks 5 days for my cervix.  I was 1cm dialated, funneling/shortening and contractions.   My cervix held out at 1.5cm length for the remainder of the pg and I ended up delivering due to pre-e.

I'm so sorry your going through this.  It is a very scary situation, like you said.  Take good care of yourself.  Drink lots of fluids and stay off your feet to keep the weight off your cervix.  I had to lay on my left side basically 99% of the time or my contractions would start up.  Think positive thoughts.

  • haven't been there but wanted to share this site- it's got some of the best info on PTL and keeping babies in that i've seen online in one place

  • While I haven't been on bed rest for that long, I believe every day counts!  I've been on bed rest for 2 weeks to the day.  It started that my cervix thinned out to 2 cm on an ultrasound with the peri.  The following week, I had a pelvic exam by my ob and she found that I was dilated to 2cm so she sent me to L&D last weekend.  I had an exam with her yesterday and she said that nothing has progressed and I was doing great!  I do believe the bed rest is really helping me.

It was hard at 1st to rely on DH to do all the cooking, cleaning, errand running etc.  But, I know I have to do nothing in order to let these babies bake a lot longer!

Hang in there!  I think the anxiety is the worst part of all, but you really have to force yourself to think positive and take it day-by-day!

Good luck to you and keep those babies bakin'!

  • I went on BR at 21.5 weeks b/c I had an IC and had a cerclage and then I  made it to 30 due to PPROM (my peri was VERY shocked when my water broke b/c I had been doing so very well). You can do it, it's a long hard road, but TOTALLY worth it.
  • I did bedrest for a week at 25 weeks when I started having contractions.  My cervix shortened but nothing drastic.  Being on bedrest made a huge difference.  My cervix lengthened again and my contractions stop.  Be really good about bedrest and drink lots and lots of water.
