High-Risk Pregnancy

2nd c section

i just talked to a trusted ob in my midwife/ob practice, the same one who did my daughter's c-section after 20 hours of interventions. she told me she thinks based on my daughter's failure to descend and 'cone head' from trying, even a trial of labor would not be a good idea. i'm so so disappointed. i know a scheduled c isn't a cop out given my circumstances, but i am sad. i know this ob is the most liberal in the practice re vbac and my midwife had the same concerns...any thoughts?? i'm 36 weeks and ob is suggesting a c at 39 weeks, and if my son decides to show up early and i'm dilating well then, maybe i can give it a shot. if not, then a c.

Re: 2nd c section

  • I'm all for whatever is safest for the baby.  If your doctor/midwife says c-section, then even if it's not what you want, you should do what they think is best.  Why take the chance of having problems during the delivery if they're worried about the baby not descending?  I know you are disappointed, but really, the important thing is holding the baby afterwards and taking care of him.

My doctor just looked at me and said- you're not even thinking about VBAC are you?  I had so many complications during my pregnancy and delivery (ended up with emergency c-section) so I know how you feel about not having a delivery- but if it's what is safest, then that's what we do.

  • Since you had issues with labor last time and they can assume you will again, they want to avoid the emergency c-section if they can...an emergency c-section has higher risks to mom and baby after having attempted and not progressed in labor. Last time they had to take the risk, but this time they are recommending you not...and if this doc would normally be all about the VBAC if possible, then I would be inclined to think they are correct.
