Traveling/Flying with BOB stroller?

I can't decide whether to take my umbrella stroller or BOB when we fly to FL next month... any advice?

We're planning lots of day trips (i.e. Disney, the zoo, the beach etc) and I think the BOB would make for better napping and it's more comfy. I just don't know how much of a hassle it is to fly with it.

Did you check it w/ luggage? Go through security/check at the door?

  • See if Baby's Away has a location near you! We've rented jogging strollers at our destination before (and toys, and Exersaucers, and high chairs!) from them in Atlanta, Denver, Houston, and Austin before.

  • We take a big stroller to fly with.  I like it because we use it to lug everything around the airport.  I was going to take the umbrella stroller but glad I didn't.  Just go through the family security line at the airport and then tell them the stroller doesn't fit through the conveyer belt thing and they will hand check.  The only pain was trying to get big stroller through the xray - it kanda alomst fit.  Now we just say right away it doesn't fit and they hand check it and roller it through.

  • the airport told me i couldn't bring my bob through security, so check w/tsa first. and do NOT check it. the lady at check in basically assured me that they would break it. you can buy a travel bag for the bob, but it's soft sided so i'd be worried. i say bring the umbrella.

  • We just returned from Disney.  I have a BOB, but we took a umbrella stroller.  It was great!  I had a little bag with extra snacks, diapers etc that we left under the stroller when we were on rides.  Then I kept a little backpack on me at all times with money, camera, cell phone, 2 diapers & wipes case to bring with me on the rides & for bathroom trips.  You have to park your stroller & walk to some rides & I felt like the umbrella stroller was great.  It still reclines when she napped for a little bit, but I could manage the crouds with a smaller stroller.  I know Disney is the greatest place on earth, but I hear you can still get your stroller stolen & I'd rather replace a cheaper stroller than my BOB.  But....do whatever you feel best!  Have fun!

  • We took the bob and gate checked it like you would any other stroller. It worked out fine.

They do have a case you can buy to put it in for about $100, if you are afraid of it getting damaged or just don't want to gate check it.

I wonder why they said that? We just went through the wheelchair lane

  • We flew with our BOB Revolution a few months back with no problems.  The only pain is putting it through the metal detectors- it fit with no problems through a larger one, but we had to pop the rear wheels off to fit it through a smaller detector.  The rear wheels pop off and on very easily, so it really wasn't a big deal at all.  We've traveled with the Revolution and an umbrella, and we preferred traveling with the BOB.

no clue. i just looked at the TSA's website and it said that if it doesn't fit they can screen it separately, so apparently i got bad info...
