Name - Chelsea
Due Date - 2/16
Date Placed on Bedrest - 1/4 - 34wks
Type - modified bedrest at home
Why - PTL, shortened cervix
Question of the Day - What did you do before bedrest? Do you miss it?
Answer- I'm a CPA, work as an auditor. Heck no, I don't miss it. It is freaking busy season and if I was at work instead of at home I would be working at least 55 hours/week.
Updates- Drs appointment this morning. Nothing too exciting. No more dilation since I got off procardia (apparently it really worked for me). I am still 2 cm, 75% effaced. My membranes will be stripped Wednesday and again at 38 weeks. If nothing by week 38 I get another u/s to see if the baby is too big.
I tested positive for Group B strep - add it to my list of complications. I am allergic to penicillin so I'm not sure what my medication during delivery will be.
Well ladies, bedrest is over for me. I am instructed to just "take it easy" until Tuesday but I can do whatever until then. What will I do? No one is off work and I have no where to go...
I hope everyone is having a much better day than yesterday. I hope the new ladies enjoy the daily check-in. It has been so much fun.
Re: Bedrest mamas daily check-in **Thursday**
Name - Shannon (I'm new here)
Due Date - 5/25
Date Placed on Bedrest - 1/12 (21w0d)
Type - bedrest at home
Why - Incompitent Cervix (funneling/opening), risk of PTL
Question of the Day - What did you do before bedrest? Do you miss it?
Answer- I work for a consulting engineering company doing engineering design-mostly natural gas work. I guess I don't miss having to go to work, but if I was able to be there, then I would have to be here... Before long, I am going to miss the paychecks though!
Updates- As of Tuesday, my cervix is getting worse/is further opened, so risk for PTL happening sooner than later is increasing. On Indocin, Prometrium and baby aspirin. Will be re-admitted to the hospital just before 24 weeks if we get that far.
Name Michelle S.
I am a dental hygienist and this is only day 2 of modified bed rest for me, but I miss work. I love my job and miss talking to my friends at work.
Name - Laura
Due Date - 6/5/2010
Date Placed on Bedrest - 1/15/2010 (at 20 weeks)
Type - modified bedrest at home
Why - Short Cervix
Question of the Day - What did you do before bedrest? Do you miss it?
Answer- I'm an office manager for a prosthetics practice. I wouldn't say I really "miss" the work...I just miss feeling like I've accomplished something daily. And I know I am accomplishing alot by keeping this baby cooking, but it's just a different feeling, to feel rewarded and useful at work.
Updates- I saw the peri today and had another u/s of my cervix. There's no change in the functional length. At least it didn't decrease. It's still closed, Thank God. I go back in two weeks to have it re-measured. Until then, I have to just keep on doing what I'm doing. Tomorrow is 21 weeks, yay! So that's my first week of Bed Rest that I can cross off the calendar. I am feeling very determined right now- and that feels good.
I am very grateful for my wonderful husband. He is being great with this Bed Rest issue, and helping so much. He is being so supportive- and I think he's going to make a great Dad. I'm also grateful to have my 3 furbabies, because they make my day more entertaining and it feels less lonely. That's all. Hope everyone else is feeling good!
Name - Jennifer
Due Date - 4/16
Date Placed on Bedrest - 12/31 (@25 weeks)
Type - strict bedrest at home
Why - hypertension; pre-e risk
Question of the Day - What did you do before bedrest? Do you miss it?
Answer- I'm a special education teacher. I teach children who have autism, most of whom are non-verbal. I miss my kids, but I don't miss the aggressive outbursts or the bs that comes with teaching in public schools.
Updates- Lots of updates today....... Went for my weekly OB appointment today, and I got a "surprise". I get there and the nurse asks me "Are you ready to do your 1 hour?" Ummmmm........well, if I'd known that I wouldn't have had a huge glass of apple juice right before I went to the appointment, and I wouldn't have had a huge bowl of Frosted Mini-wheats for breakfast. Oh, well. I guess it had to happen at some point and we'll see how it turns out. I've actually been afraid of the GD test, but we'll see. My bp was high when the nurse first took it. I told her to let me lie down and my bp would go down. So, she said ok, and sure enough, it went down (YAY! for no L&D visits today). I get to do ANOTHER 24 hr urine test (this will be my 5th!)
. And, I got the protein levels from the last one. I already knew they were "normal", but I asked for the number. They were up from 190 to 213. So, at least they were normal, but hopefully they don't go up any further. I also got my Rho-gam shot today, so I guess we're good on that now. Oh, and when the girl took my blood for the 1 hour, she was amazed at how bright red my blood was. She kept look at it and saying "Wow, I've been doing this for 5 years now and I've never seen blood like this. I wonder why it's like that." Ummmm! WTF!? I mean it WAS bright red, which I've never seen happen when I've had my bw done before, but REALLY?!
I also get to start going to the OB office 2 times per week now. One time to see my OB and a second time to do a non-stress test and biophysical profile every week. I guess that at least means two outings per week, even if it is to go to the doctor.......
Since I was already out of the house and my doctor's office is right across the street from the hospital, DH took me to see his grandfather. He was doing well. They've managed to stabilize his heart rate finally and he seemed pretty coherent today. He thinks he's staying at a hotel, but I guess it's better to think that than to be depressed about being in the hospital.

Question of the Day - What did you do before bedrest? Do you miss it?

Updates- Lastnight for the first time all pregnancy I only got up to use the bathroom twice every 3 hours. I honestly am usually up every hour. I was so amazed this am that when DH got home (he works midnights) I was super excited and so happy. I just felt refreshed and in a better mood. Tomorrow I have a OB appointment so I should have some baby related updates then!!!
Name - Abby (new to the check in!)
Due Date - 7/21
Date Placed on Bedrest - 1/20 - 14wks
Type - bedrest at home
Why - possible cervix issues and having contractions
Question of the Day - What did you do before bedrest? Do you miss it?
Answer- I'm an architect and planner. I haven't been particularly enjoying the firm I have been working at for the last few years, but I feel bad because the other planner in my office is my BFF and now he is stuck carrying the load for a bit. And I was already on pelvic rest and travel restrictions so he also has to travel for my jobs even if I am able to go back to work.
Updates- I guess I am a bit of a mystery right now. This next week should hopefully give us some answers. I bled about every two days during the first trimester, often with cramping. I haven't bled in 2 weeks though, so that is a huge relief. The NT scan showed a complete placenta previa and because of that, my OB hasn't been able to check my cervix to see if there are the issues she is afraid of. I had contractions, about every 7 minutes for a few hours last week.
I put myself on a modified bedrest at home a few weeks ago to try and avoid the pains that i get when I am upright for too long. My OB decided to put me on bedrest yesterday when I told her about the pain I have been having every day while at work...i feel great when I get up, achey and crampy by the time I get into the car, by noon I have stabbing pains falling into a regular pattern and then by 4 I am completely miserable. They tend to calm down after 3-4 hours on the couch.
I have an appt with an MFM on monday just to get a second opinion and see what he thinks and what sort of options I have as he sees them (if he is as concerned as my OB has been). I also have an u/s on Thursday to check my cervical length. Hopefully the placenta is moving its way away from my cervix (and hopefully that is all that is causing all of this!) I have an appt with my OB again on Feb 5th and she is hoping to take me off of bedrest at that point.
I have been lurking here for a while, following your stories, because we figured that I would end up on bedrest at some point. Your attitudes are amazing and I look forward to getting to know you guys better!
oh...and what sort of questions would you ask the MFM? I plan on asking him what he thinks is happening (obviously), asking if he thinks P17 shots would be helpful, asking if there are ways to stop labor if it starts this early (my OB said there wasn't), ask him if I should have a repeat cervical length check if the first one shows up as fine and I go back to work and have all the pain again...(I will have been on bedrest for a week by the time they check my cervix). I think that is all i have right now. Thanks!!!

Date Placed on Bedrest - 1/20 - 22wks
Type - strick bedrest at home

Question of the Day - What did you do before bedrest? Do you miss it?
I was a kindergarten teacher. I miss my kids but miss my friends most of all. Today is only my first full day on bed rest. What i honestly miss most of all is being able to play and take care of my DD. It breaks my heart not to be able to snuggle with her in bed and read her stories and give hee a bath. DH is working so hard to take care of me and everything else.
Name - Lauren
Due Date - 3/23
Date Placed on Bedrest - off and on throughout pg, officially 1/4
Type - strict hospital bedrest
Why - IUGR
Question of the Day - What did you do before bedrest? Do you miss it?
Answer- This question always makes me laugh--lets talk about irony: I had just started a new job as a social worker at Good Sam (the hospital I am currently at) working in perinatal services: specifically I worked w/ moms who had babies in the NICU, helping them get connected w/ support services in the community, getting them prepared for when baby got to go home and getting counseling if needed for grief/loss, post-partum depression, etc. so essentially I will be greeted by my old bosses once LO is born haha I had to quit the job (and grad school) b/c of my hyperemesis at the beginning of my pregnancy...oh how things have changed...
Updates- No real medical updates, my church has something called small groups (which basically is just a weekly meeting where you get together in smaller groups w/ other church goers and talk about life, do bible studies, enjoy fellowship, etc.) anyway my small group is 4 other couples (and a single lady-my SIL haha) and they are a huge support for me--but since I've been in the hospital Ive had to miss the last 2 weeks of small group---well they came to me tonight! We had small group in the cafeteria and it went really well, they said that they would all plan on meeting here again next week too! It was so great to be w/ friends and laugh and just share the stress we've been having and just feel like a normal person again (its the longest Ive been out of my hospital room in the past 17 days--it was only for 3 hours too! haha) but yea it was really sweet of them all to come and it gives me something to look forward to for next week!

Type - bedrest at home
Why - extremely swollen feet and legs. Watching for pe e
Question of the Day - What did you do before bedrest? Do you miss it?
Answer- I worked full time at Radio Shack and spent a lot of time getting my home ready. Things at work were bad and just started to improve right before I was put on bedrest. I miss being able to help. I have no income and cant help around the house. I feel useless.
Updates- Monday my feet and legs looked like they would explode. I have gone in three times since then to get tested for pre e. Everything looks good for now and the swelling has gone down a lot. My feet still puff really easily.
