I just talked to my RE and wanted to share what she said since there have been a few posts about this lately.
I was using two brands of OPKs this cycle (I know, overkill, right?) Anyway, the internet cheapies gave me a positive for two days only but the first response OPKs gave me multiple days of positive (like, 7). The internet cheapie positives were darker than the control line and the FR OPK positive were the same as the control line, except for one day, when it was darker (that was the same day as the cheapie positive).
Still with me?
Ok, so the RE said that some women, often those with irregular cycles, can have a higher presence of LH post ovulation. She said that the FR OPKs are too sensitive for me and I should only use the cheapies from now on. She said that it is only a concern if the constant positive show a line that is darker than the control line for multiple days in a row.
So, if I hadn't used the FR OPKs this cycle I would have only had two positives. Given my temp rise, it looks like I O'd on the day of my second positive, which is totally "normal" (yay!)
Re: Interesting info from my RE about multiple positive OPKs
Good to know...I also had the same talk with my doctor and she more or less said the same think about the LH hormone staying in some woman's system after O and that it is not worrisome. She told me she was only concerned if I had many "fake-outs" and didn't actually O after getting +.
I also use the FR. I guess I will try switching to some other brand.

SAIF/PAIF Welcome
Lots of love and luck to my PAIF/3T/IF Veteran ladies, especially my dear friend Zookie. Congrats to Papps, Teach84 and Starbuck on their little ones.
I have been using Answer brand opks and have gotten "weak positives" (lines the same color) before the "strong positives" (test line darker). All the "positives" in a row added up to probably 6 days of positives (the strong positives followed by weaker ones again). I have "regular" cycles.
Two of the REs at work told me that sounded normal, too. But they both said to have sex the day of the weak positive- that is, that for all intents and purposes that was still a positive. Of course, they did both advocate the every other day method, so this still means sex on the strong positive days.
One of the REs is an re pt herself with secondary unexplained infertility. HER re's advice was the same: opks, then eod for (at least) a week starting with the first positive.
Neither doc was concerned with "fake outs." They said that with "regular" cycles and + opks, the odds were greater than 90% that I was ovulating. They said all women with regular cycles can have an anovulatory cycle here and there, but that that is normal. Since hubby and I have been at this for a while (11 cycles) I had my progesterone checked on cd21 (even though they plus hubby, who is a general ob/gyn, said it wasn't necessary at this stage). It was normal. It was a relief because even though I don't chart, and no one irl has recommended it to me, lurking on here made me wonder if maybe I was having "fake outs" every month...
This post is almost 5 years old. EOD= every other day.
