Home Study Question

I know each agency is different but was wondering those of you who have had your home study, once the agency received your application and paperwork how long after did the home study take place?

I sent our paperwork, physicals & fingerprinting yesterday via UPS to our in-state agency who will be performing our home study.  They should have it today and now my mind is spinning thinking of when this will happen.  Very excited & nervous!

  • Congrats on getting this far! Very exciting. Once our stuff was all turned in it was about 2 weeks but it can be less, it just depends on the agency. Good luck with this amazing journey.

  • The actual home visit? We had some scheduling conflicts (we were on vacation, then the SW was), so we had our home visit about 6 weeks after we sent in all of our paperwork.

However, we also had 2 in-office meetings that were part of the homestudy. Those occured right when we got our paperwork to start working on, and about a month after that.

  • Our home visit was scheduled about 2 weeks after we turned in most of the paperwork. We had 3 meetings with our CW as part of the home study process and we turned in most of the paperwork at the first one. The bulk of it was turned in at the 2nd meeting and the home visit was about 2 weeks later ( it was right after Thanksgiving so the holiday probably delayed it some).

  • From the moment we submitted an application to adopt a child to our home study was approximately 6 1/2 weeks. We were not in contact with our social worker until about 2-3 weeks before she came to our house. For our agency, we first were required to complete educational requirements, parenting resource plan, child abuse checks, NY fingerprinting, etc. before they assigned us a social worker.
