  • Or you could get a Webkinz.  It won't shed and the food is cheap...

  • Get a non-shedding dog.  We love our dog but hate the fur!
  • we are looking to get a Standard Poodle some time.
  • get a mutt....research various breeds but get a mutt.  I have a border collie mix who is seriously the best dog ever!  Only because I'm not comfortable with pitbulls as in I dont think I would be able to handle the breed I avoid mutts that have pit in them.

Also go to the shelter and talk with them.  Tell them what your family life is like and what you want out of the dog and they can steer you in the right direction.

I also have a purebred Cane Corso Mastiff but hand downs my mutt is the better of the 2 even though my mastiff is my baby & I spoil her because she has so many birth defects.

  • I'd look for a 2+ y/o rescue poodle from a foster home that has kids.  A 2+ y/o dog is past most of the puppy craziness and their temperment is pretty much developed.  If the dog has been fostered with kids you can get a much better idea how they'll behave around children.  Poodles are usually pretty good for people with allergies but they require regular grooming.  One of my childhood dogs was a poodle mix and he was the most friendly, happiest dog I've ever met.  GL!

  • If I don't get a dog soon, I cannot be responsible for what I DO bring in this house!  :)

PMQ posted about skinny pigs the other day (hairless guinea pigs) which led me to researching those....which led to me researching mini pot belly pigs (WANT ONE!).  Joe just shakes his head at me.

But really, what I want is another rottie.  Well, I want a puppy --- I'm pretty open to breed.  Joe is not.  He wants a rottie and only a rottie.  And only one purchased from a reputable breeder (ie. around $1500-2500)  Which we don't currently have.

I am thisclose to convincing him we are ready for a puppy. But the $$ thing is definitely going to block it for a while!

  • We have a golden retriever/standard poodle mix. He does not shed at all, but does need to be groomed (about once every 2.5 - 3 months).

He is the best dog ever. Very smart and great with DS.

  • You can have both of my bulldogs!
  • Me too!!

We gave our malti-zhu to friends just before H deployed bc I didn't think I could handle the kids AND the dog by myself and I miss her sooooo much. Both DD1 and I have cried over it several times. I want her back :(

I know it was the right decision bc on the "bad" days, I prob would have thrown that dog against the wall! (No... not really), but she definitely would have put me over the edge. I don't need one more living thing to take care of right now. But I want one/her soooo bad. As soon as we move into a new house, that will be my first order of business :)

  • We have a mini schnauzer....doesn't shed/produce dander.  He's great.  We've never had any issues around the kids, but he is very protective of all of us and a good watch dog. He's purebred, was about $300 (7 yrs ago). We planning to get either a standard or giant next time, and hopefully using a rescue.

  • I love my Pug. He is a small dog but not all kinds of crazy hyper. He is fantastic with the kids and extremely loyal.
