Babies: 9 - 12 Months

how worried should i be?

Between 7pm last night and 6:30 this morning M had 4 ozs of milk. Dry diaper all night. Her diaper wasn't wet until I dropped her off at my mom's a half hour ago. Do you think she may have been dehydrated? She only had 4 ozs of milk last night (instead of her normal 6 ozs) before she went to bed.

Re: how worried should i be?

  • I wouldn't be too worried. You can try to give her a sippy with water if you're really concerned, but I wouldn't call the pedi (if it were me--you can if you want).

DS cuts back on eating when he's teething. He's also woken up a few times without a wet diaper, but it's not something that happens on a regular basis. I'd wait to see what happens tomorrow morning. If it happens a few times, then maybe call pedi, but once is probably just a fluke.

Does she usually eat in the middle of the night?

  • I would tell your mom to monitor her diapers and keep offering her milk/water. Did she drink anything this morning? I don't think missing 2 ounces would be enough to dehydrate a kid.
  • She does not eat during the night. However, she usually has an overflowing diaper when she wakes up.

I asked my mom earlier to give her more water during the day instead of just with her meals and to monitor her diapers. Thanks for the reassurance, mamas!

  • Sounds very normal to me.  My LO goes to bed on 6 oz these days and sleeps 12 hours.  If she's teething she might eat/drink less.
