High-Risk Pregnancy

Incompetent cervix / preterm labor

Are there any other moms out there that have had to deal with ic/ptl?  This is my 3rd pregnancy.  We went through a cerclage and 2 1/2 months of bedrest with our last.  That was 8 1/2 years ago.  I wondered if anything has changed since.  Tomorrow is our first dr's appt.

Thanks!

Re: Incompetent cervix / preterm labor

  • Not much has changed:). I had an emergent cerclage with pg#1 because of IC and PTL at 23w3d. I was placed on strict bedrest and meds until 37 weeks. After many hospitalizations, meds, etc, I delivered DS at 38 weeks.

With this pg, I had a preventative cerclage placed at 14 weeks for the IC and started taking weekly progesterone shots at 18 weeks (until 35 weeks) for the PTL. I went to the peri every 2 weeks for cervical length checks and saw my OB pretty much on the off weeks that I didn't see the peri. I was not placed on bedrest for the IC but my dr. took me out of work around 31 weeks at my request because i was having too many contractions. I had my cerclage removed last week and am just waiting for baby girl's arrival:)...this pregnancy has been MUCH better than my first with taking all of the preventative measures as opposed to it being an emergency. good luck!

  • I had IC with my first pregnancy (see siggy).  I have a permanent cerclage placed and so far things are going well.  You can have the permanent cerclage placed until till about 14 weeks.
