1st Trimester

5 weeks and feel and look pregnant!

Can this be? This is my first pregnancy and I'm only 5 weeks but look about 3 months along! I know they say after one pregnancy your body jumps into pregnant mode and you may show faster, but this is my first. I walk everyday and haven't really had any food cravings so I don't think I'm eating much more. I keep looking at other people's belly pictures and they look completely normal at 5 weeks. Anybody else feeling fat and looking pregnant?

Re: 5 weeks and feel and look pregnant!

  • Everyone's body is different.  So many people will tell you it's 'bloat'- which maybe it is but whatever- you're pg & your body is changing.  I showed early with both of my kids.  I was quite noticeably pg w/my 2nd by 8ish weeks & by 10 weeks was getting comments from strangers in the store about being pg.  I had a friend who had an 11lb baby & I was much bigger than she was with my little 6 pounders :)

  • I had that same thing happen early on. It is obviously not baby, per se, so early on, but it is all that goes with pregnancy, for sure (uterus growing, bloating, constipation, you name it). I hate the entire bloat versus baby debate that happens on these boards. I've never really cared nor have I seen the importance, as it is all related to pregnancy, anyway (duh!). I know I've NEVER looked like this when not pregnant, thankfully...I'm going on 12 weeks now and I'm up three inches around my waistline. I doubt it is going away anytime soon and when I look in the mirror, I see skinny-preggers-woman. Others probably don't even notice and that's just fine for now (more time for me to keep it to myself).
  • I could see 8-10 weeks, but 5?!? Geeze! If it's bloat, when does it go away?
  • Your baby is like the size of a poppy seed and your uterus is still behind your pelvic bone.  Sounds like bloat.  Do you feel bigger at the end of the day?

Sometimes I'd go to bed looking like I was going to have twins (I'm exaggerating, but you know what I mean), then woke up pretty much back to normal again. For me, it was up and down those first few weeks. More recently, it is very consistent.

  • I am on my 3rd pregnancy and just had my DS less than 2 years ago i am not even showing not even close yet.
  • I kinda felt like that, too, but it hasn't lasted. It was totally a gas baby at the time. I went the other day for my 10wks and I think so far I gained about 5lbs. I felt like it was 10lbs when I was 5wks. Are you having alot of bloating?
  • Bloat! It sucks but it will stick around for a few weeks and then it will go away and eventually a bump will appear.
  • This was me!  It is bloat, but I know it doesn't feel that way and you feel huge!  I can't promise it'll get better, but I can tell you that my bloat isn't as bad now as it was in the beginning...hopefully yours gets better!

  • I am just 6 weeks preg and DD is just 13 months.  I can't do up the pants I got at Christmas... I know its total bloat, but doesn't change that my pants wont do up!!  I pulled out my Bella Band this morning- feels much better!!

This exactly! I'm like a new person in the mornings.

  • Thanks ladies! It's definitely bloat! I feel much better in the morning but at night it's a whole different story! Glad to hear I'm not crazy!! I've pretty much stopped wearing jeans unless I have to! Lovin' my yoga pants!
