Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Bedtime Crying

I haven't been on since before LO was born...so I need to update everything, sorry in advance!!

I am EBF...my 3 month old was sleeping through the night, and I was loving it.  However, the past 3 nights he hasn't been and has been crying...hard...when it is time to go to bed.  Last night he woke up 30-40 minutes after he finally went to sleep; crying again.  I know some babies have a crying spell when it's time for bed...but wow!  I hope this subsides and soon!  I guess I'm just wondering if anyone else is going through this or has any suggestions.  Thanks!

Re: Bedtime Crying

  • They tend to go through a phase around 3 mo where they sleep really well, and then get out of it and wake up more often again.

We would go in and sing to him, and touch him after about 5-10 minutes of crying and sometimes that works.  We were trying to get him to soothe himself back to sleep.  If he escalates in the crying then we will pick him up, change a diaper and/or feed again.

Good luck, just keep trying things until something works, and then they'll change on you again!  :)

  • We went through that for about a month...one of books I read called it a "45 minute intruder" or something and to treat it as the LO is hungry.  That's what I did, my LO would seem to eat a full meal...and she no longer wakes at that time anymore.  I was thinking it could be because my milk supply is lower at night and she wants to 'tank up' before sleeping the long stretch.  Who knows though ;)
