xp: in hospital w/PTL

Hi MoMs,

A quick update for you. Seems like my hypochondria and anxiety paid off this week. For the last couple of days I thought I maybe had UTI symptoms and extra cramping/contractions, but I wasn't sure. Finally yesterday afternoon I just felt too anxious to wait till my next appt and decided to call the OB. I went in and did a urine test (totally clear) and had an exam. My cervix was still long and high, but fingertip/1cm dilated. Soooo, I went up to L&D for monitoring, and a few hours later it was still 1cm but also 50% effaced. eek. I got the first steroid shot last night, and a shot of terbutaline. The contractions eventually slowed, and this morning my cervix was a tiny bit better (25% effaced but still 1 cm). The doc was pleased that it at least hadn't gotten worse. I'll get the second steroid shot tonight, and I'm really hoping that if things stay stable I can move to home bedrest tomorrow or Thursday. Oh - my ffn test was negative, as were swabs for infections. So for now they think that this was just due to the increasing pressure from my giant uterus. 

Please send any "keep them cooking" vibes you can! We had a scary talk with a NICU nurse last night and I really don't want to see the NICU for many more weeks. 

p.s. bedpans are so gross!

Stay strong and keep them cooking for a little while longer. At least there was some good news that it went to 25%! Hopefully in a day or two you'll be back at home in the bed. But for now good luck and keep us posted.

P.S. Bedpans are gross but at least it's not a catheter!

I'm so sorry to hear that you had it rough, but I'm also so happy to hear that you didn't delay the call to the OB!  Good for you!  I hope your cervix keeps improving and your LOs stay cooking in there for a very very long time!  You and your LOs will be in my T&Ps!  Hang in there lady and keep updating us!

Oh no. They need to stay put! The terb works. My contrax have diminished greatly. I would ask about a terb pump and HUAM. It is the greatest thing.

So glad that you went in to get checked out.  I hope those babies keep cooking in there!  At least now you'll be monitored very closely so hopefully they can keep them in as long as possible.
