Everyone keeps telling me I need a "schedule". I agree, because I can see myself ending up awake all night and sleeping all day if I don't figure something out. So, I wanted to see what you ladies do, so I can get some ideas. For the past few days, I've been getting a TON of phone calls and emails to find out what's going on, but I think that's going to slow down now, and I'll need some structure.
Also, for those on modified bed rest- can you tell me how much you're on your feet? The high risk doc said to try and take a shower every few days instead of everyday and only get up to use the bathroom, and that I can eat meals at the table. My OB is less alarmist and said "relax and stay off your feet". I just need to not feel guilty getting off the couch to let my dog out or whatever.
Any insight would be helpful. Hope all of you are doing well!
Re: Bedrest Mamas- Talk to me about your "schedule"
I have similar restrictions-- I am allowed to shower (I have a stool in the shower, though), and I can get up for about 5 minutes at a time to make a snack or an easy meal.
I usually stay upstairs until about 8:30 am, I will read in bed. Then come downstairs and make breakfast, eat it at the table, and then go back upstairs. I am usually watching TV in the morning. I have to put in my progesterone suppository and lie down after I do that, so I do that between 10 and 10:30. Depending on whether I will have visitors and when, I will either try to shower before I lie down, or do it around noon.
At about 12:30 or so I go back downstairs for lunch, and spend the rest of the day on the couch. I will either watch TV, be on the internet, read a book, etc. Sometimes I will have visitors. My husband cooks dinner, we eat together, then I go back to the couch. Sometimes we watch a movie, or I watch one of the shows I like. At 10 I go upstairs and get ready for bed, and the last thing I do before getting in bed is put my suppository in.
I try not to nap during the day because I think it does affect my sleep at night. But I also have Unisom and Tylenol PM in my nightstand (my OB ok'd these). I have only taken something about 3 or 4 times.
My life sounds totally boring! But it's a routine, and it does help time pass.
I am also allowed to shower every day although I don't have a stool in the shower to sit on - I just try to make it fast. I usually go downstairs around 8:30 - 9:00 am and I stay downstairs until it's time for bed.
If my husband is still home, he gets me cereal or whatever for breakfast. Otherwise, I just fix myself something to eat.
I generally watch some TV, read, go online. I do get up to let the dogs out if they need to go but my doctor never said I couldn't do that so I'm doing it. I don't know how the days actually go by, but they do - I'm in week 6 of modified bed rest.
I also try not to nap during the day so that way I'm not up all night.
I may be able to start working again but only if my work lets me do it from home so that will help the time pass. However, I have no idea how to really work from my sofa - it's totally not condusive to working (it's a comfy sofa, but to position myself to "work" all day might be tough).
I wouldn't nap during the day if you can avoid it so that you can sleep normally at night.
Good luck!!
I usually get out of bed and come downstairs around 8:30, get a drink and relax on the recliner and watch TV until about 10 when I get up to eat my cereal, sit back on the recliner and go through my written to do list. I usually eat lunch around 1:30 and play around on the internet until 3 at which time I usually go upstairs and shower and sit down and do some tasks in the nursery until DH comes home. Then I come back downstairs, help cook, eat and stay downstairs until around 10 - go upstairs and go to bed.
My to do list includes things like pay bills, looking up certain things, watching DVR'd shows (I'm 2 weeks behind on my shows haha - even on bedrest), emailing friends so on and so forth.
No naps helps as others have said
On my modified bedrest, I just try to stay off my feet as much as possible and limit my trips up and down the stairs. I can shower everyday but I try to sit down while putting on my lotion and all that stuff. My doctor also allows me to go on small errands. I usually just drive somewhere to get something to eat and go to the drive thru or bank or something. If I go to a store someone usually comes with me and I ride in a cart or shopping wheelchair haha.
