clogged tear duct

anyone's lo have a clogged tear duct. what did you do for it? my one dd has excessive watery eye and mucosy stuff in her one eye. i know she is really uncomfortable!!

both my boys had this, you just massage the tear duct (along the nose under the eye) a few times a day. ours cleared up within a week or so. i think my pedi said if it didnt clear up within 6 mo. they would have to go to an eye dr.

Both of Anastasia's tear ducts were clogged. We massaged them. One opened up pretty quickly. The other is still clogged. My pedi said that if it's still clogged at 1 year, she'd have to have a quick procedure to open it.

Two of my kids had this.  For my 2 yr old I did the massaging and it cleared up when she was a few weeks old.  For one of my twins, both of her eyes were like this.  One of them opened on it's own but one of them had to be opened when she was 7 mos.  Our pedi gave it that long to see if it would on it's own and then we went to an eye specialist.  A very quick procedure.  They basically prick the hole to open it.  A little traumatic b/c the doc took her in a different room and I could hear her scream and cry.  But it was only a second and she has been fine ever since. Definitely worth doing.
