High-Risk Pregnancy

GD Newbie

Hey girls - I just found out this afternoon that I failed my 3hr GD test. I was referred over here cause I want to get on top of it ASAP. Apparently they are sending me to a nutritionist to **hopefully** take care of it via diet/exercise but I haven't even heard from them yet so I'm clueless as to what I can be doing in the meantime.

I know my first step tomorrow is to get my butt back to the gym but I'm so lost. I don't eat bad to begin with, I wasn't overweight to begin with and I've only gained 13 lbs thus far.

Anything you ladies can offer me is going to be much appreciated - thanks!

Re: GD Newbie

  • if you look through some earlier posts, you'll see lots of helpful food/menu/shopping suggestions.  I had to wait a week before my appt and I wanted to get a jump start too so I came up with my own plan.  I did 3 meals and 3 snacks.  Each snack is 15 carbs, breakfast and lunch are 30 carbs each, and dinner is 45 carbs.  Even after my appt, I've stuck to this plan and it's been pretty successful.

    Here's an example:

breakfast - Special K Protein Plus w/skim milk (lately this has been giving me high numbers so I need to switch to eggs, blech!)

morning snack - apples and pb or grapes and cheese

lunch - chicken ranch wrap from jason's deli

afternoon snack - cottage double snack pack

dinner - anything but pasta or pizza pretty much!  Lot of lean protein and veggies

bedtime snack - edy's SF mint choc chip ice cream or 6 whole wheat ritz with pb

It's actually not been too hard, and there are a few benefits.  Apparently this diet curbs the weight gain during the last trimester and makes it easier to lose weight after birth.  I've been on the diet for about 2 weeks and I feel better than I have all pregnancy.  The only exercise I really added was an after lunch walk.  hope this helps, good luck to you!

  • Thanks so much it is very helpful to hear other people dealing with the same thing.

It's amazing cause that's not a lot of different foods than I eat now it's just a lot more throughout the day - what do you do if you can't eat all that? I think that's what makes this so hard to start off with, but it's a learning process right? lol

I do plan to get back into the gym - if nothing else this gives me the motivation that I haven't had thus far!

Thanks again for the info - good luck to you too!

  • Hi ladies!

Thanks for your post. I was diagnosed on Monday, waiting for the drs that my practices is referring me to call. Wanted to get a jump start myself, I hate they give you this news, tell you how important it is (of course it is!) and then wait.... with no information.

I did the same things researched different posts and sites, then went with the carb counting of meals and snacks. Need to get the exercise in there too. I know that will be a big help and a strong contributor to me being in this situation. I did well exercising at first and have let it trickle out. So back on it!

Glad to have this community for advice and support!

    Have a great day!

    Elizabeth
