I *think* I read he's up again in 2012, but I could be wrong.
The real irony to me is that I believe the MA General Court changed the rules on having a special election vs. having the governor appoint someone to circumvent letting Romney appoint someone in Kerry's seat. It's LOLtastic.
Eclaires, it is true. The state changed the rules so that govenor Mitt Romney could not appoint a republican when they thought John Kerry was going to win for president. Then Teddy died and health care was on the table and "oh no, of course we need to appoint someone.....". Stupid huh.
I think he gets the rest of Ted's run and then there will be another election.
First of all, Bayh is a giant coward who plays off on being a moderate Democrat at home and does nothing in Congress. I cannot STAND him, and it drives me absolutely 100% insane that he will campaign like he's a mofo Republican in Indiana and people will vote for him. One of our friends always refers to him in emails/texts as "Bayh[***]" instead of his party. Now that's more derogatory than I would use, but it's so freaking true. He has no balls. He talks out of both sides of his mouth and it infuriates me. During the 2004 election, he talked about how he voted with Bush 90% of the time in his ads. He's ridiculous.
But I do think that will be the net effect - the Dems who wanted to find a way out - like Nelson, Bayh, etc. in moderate states will use this as reasoning to do so. That's what hurts the Dems and their agenda, not losing one vote.

I have watched enough footage of Coakley to know that she didn't come across as an exciting candidate, but I thought the Obama endorsement would have a little pull. Apparently not.
Re: About Brown's win...
changed it, I think it is a full seat. wishful thinking I guess

LOL at your code name for him. I agree with Yglesias, too.
Coakley/the Dems ran a pathetic campaign, didn't she pretty much stop campaigning during Christmas?
UGH.
Yep. Jon stewart did a hysterical piece on the daily show on this last night.
