Tips for the last steps of PT...

Okay, so I posted yesterday that we are good with our daytime potty training now. DD is FINALLY pooping on the potty during the day. She has been peeing for about 2 weeks.

Now, we need to work on nap/bed time and out in public...

Any tips? She still wakes up with VERY full diapers in the morning even though she will soon be 3. We don't give her anything to drink past 6 PM (when we eat dinner). Should I wait on the nighttime or try and push her to wake up (she is a pretty deep sleeper). I just have the feeling I would be doing a lot of extra laundry... And with a new baby coming, I want less work. LOL.

Also, what tips do you have for ridding the pull ups on car rides and pottying in public places?

  • I wouldnt worry about naps/night time PTing just yet.

As for going out at first do the pullups but before you leave the house make him go potty....when you get there make him go again....when you leave the place make him go yet again.  So on and so forth.

  • we have the same problem!  soaked at night.  She made it through nap a few tiems this week/weekend, and still has an occasional accident while we are out (today)

  • DS potty trained himself about a month ago and we are not even starting to worry about night time for a looooong time because he is only a little over 2. As far as out and about, we started leaving the house 2 days after he was potty trained and did our normal crazy schedule of activities. We never used pull ups or anything. I have him go to the bathroom right before we leave the house and then have him go as soon as we get to a destination. If we are somewhere longer than an hour or so, I have him go again before we leave if we hasn't already asked to go on his own. We have had no accidents. I have been carrying around a change of clothes just in case, but so far so good!

I might have to ditch the pull-ups for going out... Cause she just goes when she has them on. She doesn't ask. She knows with panties to "Keep (Elmo or Zoe or Dora or Ariel, etc.) dry." I am just afraid of accidents in the car seat - we sometimes have awful traffic around here. Maybe get one or two of those piddle pads and keep spare clothes in the car... Or what about those thicker training panties?

  • I did the pullups the first few times we went out....once she was dry the entire time I put regular underwear on her and had a change of clothes just in case.

  • What I did for the first week of PTing or so was to put a pull-up on over his underwear so if he wet himself he'd feel it.

Don't worry about her going at night yet. You can't PT for nighttime. It's something that she has to be developmentally ready for.
