Re: ***GD TUESDAY CHECK IN***

  • Good morning! I honestly can't believe how great DH has been. He's checking all the carbs at the grocery store, he's learned a few GD friendly recipes, and the kicker was this past weekend when we had family in town.  It was my first weekend testing, and of course we ate out tons, so DH took the time to look at restaurant menus online and make sure they had options for me.  The other night, he even asked me to check his BS.  It didn't end well though, b/c after eating pasta, alcohol, and beignets dipped in chocolate, he was only at 83!

As for breakfast, I had my usual Special K Protein Plus, but for some reason my number was 143 when I'm normally under 110.  Any reason why this may be?  My fasting number was right on track.

  • Question of the Day: DH has been pretty good.  He even made dinner on Sunday night and I got good numbers afterwards!!  He's been supportive... but it's still really tough- especially when he eats "normal" food.  Although, he's good about it and doesn't eat it in front of me.

Menu: What's for Breakfast?  Quaker Low-Sugar Cinnamon & Spice oatmeal, a hard-boiled egg and a decaf coffee with just a tsp of half & half

  • DH has been really good about everything. He stays on me all the time about checking my sugar & checks in on me while at work to see how my numbers are. He makes sure I eat what I'm supposed to & talks me out of bad decisions when I'm ready to give in lol. As far as eating dinner together he's been a lot better about it then I thought he would because he's been willing to eat whatever it is that I can. And he's been really good about making a dinner that I can eat when I work late. I think he's actually liking eating healthier!

For breakfast I had an egg sandwhich on wheat bread (that only has 16g for 2 slices) & quaker low sugar oatmeal!

Hope everyone has a good day!!

  • DH has been very supportive.  We are fortunate in that the junk food he craves doesn't really interest me - he is more interested in salty food and I crave sweet foods.

I wanted to test his sugar the other day to compare it to mine - and he looked really scared - so I didn't do it.  It made me laugh though.

Breakfast this morning = Multi-grain crackers w/peanut butter

  • My Dh has been good with the sugars. Very supportive. He has had so much to deal with this pregnancy I feel bad. This is my 5th high risk factor poor man! Luckily mine is pretty easy to manage...however I was SUPER pouty this weekend b/c we always go for bagels and since my morning numbers have been higher I wasn't allowed.... he took it in stride though lol!Menu: What's for Breakfast? I had to switch from cereal and milk last week b/c my numbers started rising bOO! So I have been having hard boiled eggs and wheat toast or scrambled eggs w/o milk plus my decaf coffee. I HATE eggs in the am! THe other day I had two slices of whole wheat toast with PB and that was better but I also really miss OJ!!!!!
  • Hello! I am new here and glad to find you ladies.

katdil/Elizabeth 36/ April 1/ diet (as of right now)

I was just dianosed yesterday so am kind of "winging it" until my dr get the referral to the dietian. I am ready to go to make sure I am doing this right.

  • What a great question! DH has been amazing! He's kept junk food out of the house and been really supportive.  I am a lucky girl!

  • Question of the Day: How is your DH, SO, partner and or family dealing with your GD? Have they been supportive? Has it been difficult for them adjusting to your changing diet? testing sugars?

DH has been super supportive.  We don't get to eat dinners a lot together to begin with (due to conflicting work schedules) so the meals we do have together it's something that we both can eat and like.  He doesn't see it as a big deal to change his diet with me on those days.  He does pack my meals for me to take to work and he's pretty good and letting me know how many carbs are in what and what I can eat as snacks.  For the first week he wasn't packing enough carbs but he's gotten super better.  He reminds me that I should test if we've had dinner together and he even stands in the room with me while I give myself the insulin shot so I don't have to watch in the mirror.  (I don't mind needles, I just can't stand to watch them go into my skin).

Menu: What's for Breakfast?  For breakfast this morning, I had low sugar peaches and cream oatmeal with 2/3 cup of skim milk.  I think the brand was Quaker, it's the one that has the monopoly on oatmeal.

  • Hi Ladies

oceanangelbeauty   Mary Louise  34  May 22 2010 and I am insulin dependent.

Question of the Day: DH has just been great. I think he worries more than I do about my sugars.

Menu: What's for Breakfast? I had a scrambled egg and a double fiber english muffin.

  • Question of the day? DH has been great - pretty interested, wanted to test his blood sugar too, so I stuck him! LOL!

Breakfast - I had 2 slices of toast and cottage cheese.... not a very exciting day

Got put on Glyburide today - 2.5 before breakfast to try and get daytime numbers down, since morning have actually been fairly good.  Hope it works!

  • My partner has been wonderful and she is diabetic herself.  She is letting me use her kit to check my sugar level since I haven't seen the nurse yet (I will on Friday).  I am usually the one who fixes our meals, so I am trying to keep an open eye and be aware of the foods we eat.

There are some food that are hard for me.. such the fact that I enjoy having my hot chocolate in the morning and a few other things during the day (not sweets, just amount of carbs.)

Breakfast this morning? 2 poached eggs with some salsa.

  • Hey all! I just found out this afternoon that I failed my 3 hour so I'll be meeting with a nutritionist hopefully sometime this week or early next week. In the meantime I'm going to wing it I guess!

    mrs.Katie_love / Katie / 29 / March 29th / diet and exercise only

I usually have Quaker instant oatmeal and either an apple or a pear for breakfast. Since I failed my 1 hr a few weeks ago I've been eating the low-sugar instant oatmeal instead of the regular. I'm excited to get this on track as soon as I can get in with the nutritionist!

  • DH has been very supportive for the most part. He reminds me to eat my snacks and always is interested in what my numbers are. He just doesn't totally realize how hard it's been to give up the sweets that I crave!

    Menu: What's for Breakfast?

I'm having a really hard time with breakfasts. I hate eating early and so it's been the hardest to get used to. Scrambled or hard boiled eggs and toast usually.

  • Hi!

DH is being very supportive.  He praises me when I have days with really good numbers, and doesn't critique me when I have higher days.  He does seem to want to be my coach, lol, and gets on my case about walking on the treadmill, but I do need that push.  This weekend he was so sweet and got up before I did in the morning and made me breakfast.  He was all proud and told me that he even looked at my GD booklet to make sure he counted carbs right, and ended up making a meal of 2 pieces whole grain toast and 2 fried eggs with a little butter.  He was a good cook, and my after-breakfast number was 102, so he did great!  My family is also very supportive, as are my ILs.

I have had a HARD TIME mentally adjusting.  I have a crazy sweet tooth, and all I want is my bowl of Lucky Charms or a big piece of chocolate cake or Oreos with a glass of ice cold milk.  I dislike veggies very much.  Grrrr.  But my body is doing well with the change, and most of my numbers are below 120, and my fasting numbers are usually below 80.  I lost a pound and a half since my GD diet, and my doctor says that's ok.

Breakfast this morning was:  15 grapes, 15 whole raw almonds, 1 Fiber One Key Lime yogurt, and 1/2 cup low fat cottage cheese.  Breakfast has been a little bit of a challenge for me because I usually make this one of my biggest meals, and now with my eating plan, it is now my smallest (of course, because a.m. readings can usually be so high).  My tummy misses a nice, full feeling in the morning.

P.S.  I forgot to give my age at the first check-in... I am 27

    GL ladies!

  • DH has been really good, he tells me I have been eating fine the whole time which I have.

The only thing I have time for is Instant Oatmeal, Monday- Friday, otherwise my DH makes eggs on the weekend for us in addition.

  • I was just diagnosed last week and have my diabetic counseling class on Friday.  Since then I've been trying to control my carbs but it's really hard not knowing how many I can have.

DH and I went to the grocery store yesterday and that was depressing.  I wasn't prepared when we went so I had no idea what kinds of things I should get.  I looked at the bread aisle for 10 minutes and still didn't find bread that made me really happy.  The only thing I could really remember was the Special K protein plus so I got some of that.

I'm ready for my class so hopefully I'll know better what I'm dealing with!

Right now, I'm discouraged and down!  :(

  • Question of the day: DH has been supportive although he isn't about to change his diet in any shape or form. Sometimes he'll wan't certain things for dinner and I'll have to remind him that I can't eat that right now because it runs my BS up so I try to avoid it. DH is hispanic and therfore we eat alot of rice and other starchy foods so for me this is a real challenge, But for my LO i've learned to cope.

  • Pardon the late check in...

QOD: Since it's early in my diagnosis, my DH doesn't really know what to do...but neither do ISmile

I have my first dietician appointment tomorrow, so we'll see how it goes. Today was my first full day of checking my blood sugar and following a basic carb-controlled diet....and sad to say, it looks like I'm heading down the Insulin route.

Breakfast this morning: Scrambled egg on two slices of Carb Style toast (slathered with one wedge of Laughing cow cheese) and one small cup of Breakstone's 2% cottage cheese w/ pineapple ( all together 30 carbs)
