Two Under 2

what to do re: 2 gliders??

I really don't want to buy a second glider, but DD and I use hers A LOT - before every nap and at night...we don't use the rocking part anymore, but a place to cuddle together before bed and read stories and sing songs... any ideas for what else we could do or get? She is still in her crib and has not shown any signs of being ready to move out of it so I am not rushing that... once she is a toddler bed we can just sit on that...another reason why I don't want a whole other glider - short period of time we will need it... advice?? please!! :)

Re: what to do re: 2 gliders??

  • Maybe a large beanbag or PBK style chair? We just transitioned Kaylin to her big girl bed so we haven't dealt with that first hand. Another thought would be to move the glider to a more neutral location.

  • DD got a huuuuge teddy bear for Christmas that lies flat on the floor.  Sometimes we cuddle up on that and read stories.
  • With BF'ing I live in my glider in the middle of the night for the first 4 months or so.

We got a second glider at a garage sale.  The old wooden kind with the chair pads?  Then I recovered the pads to match the toddler's room.

Nursing = 30-40 minutes of my butt in a chair so I wanted the comfy nice one in the baby's room.

The toddler's needs were a few minutes to cuddle and read stories at bed time or a few minutes of rocking when waking or sick.  We did fine with a cheaper, less comfortable chair in there.

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
  • we might get a plain chair for DS's room and leave the glider with the nursery furniture... We'll see. But, honestly, I rarely used the glider when DS was little becuase he slept in our room and he nursed in bed with me. So really it would get more use in his room so actually maybe I'll leave it. We'll just have to see!

I think we'll do this. I need the option of a rocker if he needs help to sleep or is sick. I will find one on CL, and use the comfy one in DD's room for Bfing reasons too.

  • I moved the good glider into DS #2's room and found a cheap one on Craigslist for DS #1's room. I think it was $40 well spent. Smile

  • I have the same dilemma! I think I am going to get a big comfy beanbag chair for DS's room, since it's something he can use for a long time and they have such cute ones! We can snuggle on that and read, etc.
  • I'm borrowing her Dutailier and putting it in our bedroom while I nurse DS and he isn't sttn yet. In the meantime I'm looking on Craigs for either a cheaper Dutailier or even a regular ole rocking chair, something I wouldn't mind parting with when the 2 kiddos join rooms and only need the one glider.

I haven't found any big ones that aren't super $$...have you seen any? I love this option...

  • We moved my older DD at 18 months into her big girl bed so we used that but if you don't want to move her out of the crib I would get a bean bag chair or something like that for her room and use the glider with the baby.  We often do reading with all of us so when the girls were younger, I would hold both of them on my lap while we read or we would all snuggle together on oler DD's big girl bed.  We still do that now for reading but the glider is now upstairs and we sit on either of the girls beds or they both pull up their bean bag chairs and I sit on the bed.

  • I didnt want to buy another either--esp since the one we have went up about $300 in the last 2 yrs (high-end Dutalier).  However, we plan on using them in our family room or in our livingroom once the kids are done w/them so we looked at it as an investment..
