Hi ladies, I'm new here and really just trying to see if there's anyone else in my boat. I'm getting a lot of info that isn't very specific to what I have and I'm a little lost. I'm due in July and Christmas day I have a bleeding episode. There was bright red and also some fluid. We had a horrible experience in the er where they told us we were "basically 100%" going to lose the baby. Thankfully that was far from the truth. We did, however, find out that I have a sch and its fairly large. There wasn't a lot of concern at first, just a "take it easy" approach. Then I had another large gush of dark blood sometime earlier this month. From there, we found out that the sch is a little attached to the placenta and the hematoma is moderately privia. I don't know the implications of the privia part, but the sch being attached puts me at a higher risk of the sch pulling the placenta from the uterine walls and terminating the pregnancy. no stress here! Anyway, my doctor has brought up taking progesterone injections starting at 16 weeks (this/next week) and I don't feel good about it. My levels are fine and he himself said that its all completely thereoy. Also, there is zero wrong with the baby and its very active. Still, I would really be interested to hear from ladies who have or have had a sch that was connected to the placenta, as it seems to be the most threatening issue. What are you doing? Is it getting better? How do you deal with the virtual bedrest? Sorry, this is probably long but I am just having an awful time finding people going through this and hearing real information. I just stopped bleeding yesterday, but this happened before and I had another bleeding episode so I feel like I'm just sitting around waiting for a bomb to go off.
Re: subchorionic hematoma/hemmorhage
I also just wanted to chip in with good thoughts coming your way. I had a bleed at 15 weeks, had the same horrid ER experience. I was put on strict bedrest (bedpan and everything....uck) for two days, followed by a week of at-home bedrest. At the US they find a small clot, but it wasn't connected to the placenta. In my case they can't tell where the actual bleed (i.e., SCH) was, if it was coming from the placenta or if the clot itself was at the location of the bleed. I'm now off bedrest but still on some restrictions (no lifting anything even a little heavy, no travel), thankfully no additional bleed in the past 2 weeks (knocking on every bit of wood in the room). Unfortunately, everything I've read and the doctor's have told me is that there isn't much that can be done outside of avoiding strain. As your doctor said, the main concern is if a bleed causes placenta detachment. Fortunately, though, as pp said, the odds with SCH in general are higher that it will either dissolve or bleed out without causing a problem.
Thoughts and hopes are with you it will shrink and be reabsorbed, and quickly. I know exactly what you mean about the 'bomb', I catch myself running to the bathroom almost compulsively sometimes, just to check. Try to keep yourself occupied while taking it easily as much as you can to keep your mind off things...movies, books, crosswords, whatever. My work let me telework when I had to be on bedrest, it helped.
