High-Risk Pregnancy

Daily Bedrest Mama's Check-In

This thread is for any and all mamas on bedrest, in any form. We are stuck home or in the hospital, in a bed or on our couches, and could use the support of each other to make it through this time in order to get to a healthy baby! We all know how hard bedrest is and we wish everyone a healthy pregnancy!!!! Anyone is welcome to join, and anyone can start this daily thread. Just copy and paste this paragraph and info lines below if you get here and the thread has yet to start for that day!

Name - Michelle/miaomi

Due Date - 4/20

Date Placed on Bedrest - at 14wks

Type - modified bedrest at home

Why - herniated disks in back/now having contraction issues

Question of the Day - Do you have a name picked out for your LO yet?  Are you sharing with people and does the name have any special meaning?

Answer- We are naming our baby Olivia Caitlin.  We've been calling her Olivia since 12wks...good thing she turned out to be a girl, huh?!  It was a name we both like right off the bat and I just knew she was a girl.  She's always been Olivia to us so it stuck.  And Caitlin because it's a combo of both of my sisters names...Katie and Lynn.

Updates- I've made it to the 3rd trimester!!  I can't believe it.  DH got the nursery all painted and the dresser put together last night.  I've walked in their twice today already...I know, I'll stop!...it seems so real and I love the room!  Now all I need is a baby in there.  But not quite yet, I know she needs some more cooking time.  Other than that, I'm feeling pretty good.  The contractions weren't too crazy yesterday and I just need to be really careful not to overdo it.

I hope you all are doing well.  I know it was a rough weekend for lots of us.  Let's hope for a good week with no issues and problems!!

Re: Daily Bedrest Mama's Check-In

  • Name - Jennifer

    Due Date - 4/16

Date Placed on Bedrest - 12/31; hospitalized overnight 12/30 and 1/11

Type - strict bedrest at home

    Why - hypertension; pre-e risk

Question of the Day - Do you have a name picked out for your LO yet?  Are you sharing with people and does the name have any special meaning?

Answer- Our little boy will be named Samuel Anderson.  We have been calling him Sam since 13 weeks when our u/s tech guessed he was a boy.  Samuel doesn't really have any significance; we just like the name.  The middle name, Anderson, is my maiden name.

Updates- I'm not having a great day.  I'm not sleeping at night, so that's definitely affecting my emotional state.  DH's grandfather had two "cardiac events" (i.e. heart attacks) yesterday.  So, they have decided that he can not leave the hospital.  They have transferred him to a ICU type room, and basically they are going medicate him and wait for him to die (I know that sounds horrible - sorry).  He's not doing well at all, and it's really sad.  DH has been at the hospital all day, and he just texted me saying they almost had to shock his grandfather and did the whole "Code Blue" thing.  I know DH needs to spend as much time with his grandfather as he can right now, but part of me is wishing he was here taking care of me.  Ugggghhhhhhhhh!  I need to stop being such a baby Sad

**Hope everyone is having a better day than me.

  • Name - Lauren

    Due Date - 3/23

Date Placed on Bedrest - on and off through out pg, officially 1/4

    Type - strict hospital bedrest

    Why - IUGR

Question of the Day - Do you have a name picked out for your LO yet?  Are you sharing with people and does the name have any special meaning?

Answer- We have 3 first and middle name combos picked out, we are keeping them a secret (I want to tell you guys but some of my IRL friends are on the bump and I dont want them to find out by stumbling upon this post lol) So yea we have been told by alot of other moms that its fun to wait and meet the baby before you pick a name for sure...which works for us because honestly there isnt 1 name out of the 3 combos that we like more than the other 2 so it will be "he looks like a ....." and picking a name lol We call him little buddy right now becuase I dont like calling a baby just baby lol LB has kinda stuck though so Im thinking he might get called little buddy even after birth since friends and family already call him that lol the 3 name combos we have picked are all family names/have sentimental attachment to them

Updates- not too much to update, I caught the stomach bug from my DH so I was pretty gross feeling yesterday but Ive been able to keep food down today and DH is back at work so we are both doing much better...I have my big u/s tomorrow sometime (dont know what time yet) and I am so excited/nervous/anxious ugh I just want it to get here already--and I am dreading the 37598235 phone calls from family/friends wanting to know what the u/s says...I posted on my blog that I plan on keeping my phone off so hopefully people get the hint and give us a little space to process whatever the results are...b/c even best case scenario means another 9 weeks of bedrest for me (which I will gladly do if it helps LB, but it still sucks) so yea...I will let you guys know what they say!

**Michelle-your nursery is cute already! I love the soft pink and green color scheme :-)

  • Jennifer...I'm so sorry about your DH's Grandfather.  And don't worry about being a baby. You recognize that your DH needs to be at the hospital and you have the right to wish he is with you at the same time.  It's not an easy position for you to be in.  I hope his passing is easy and painless.  It sounds bad, but we went through the same thing with my Grandma.  It got to the point where we just prayed that she would slide away quietly and painlessly.  I hope that your family is able to be comforted by each other during this time.  Try not to let it all get you too down.  Please know that you can vent or cry on this board if you need to!

Lauren....I'm glad your DH is feeling better and hope you are soon!  Does this mean DH will be able to be there for your ultrasound?  I'm hoping and praying for the best for your "buddy"!  Let's hope he's looking big and strong and wanting to stay put for another 9wks...you can do it girl!  Besides, we like you here on this board. :-)  Stay strong and try to get some sleep tonight...don't stay up all night worrying!

    Michelle-

I was just lurking here, and feeling nostalgic, and saw your post that you are in third trimester.  I just had to post!  What an accomplishment!  I just wanted to say you are a trooper.  I know it has been a long road, and I have to say that my nine little weeks of bedrest seem so insignificant.  I am glad to continue to see the daily check in and that you all are supporting each other.

To you and all of the other ladies, the gift you are giving your LOs is amazing.  You are all amazing women and should be commended for your sacrifice.    Several of us started this check several months ago, and it helped me so much through my bedrest.  I am happy to see it continue!

    Fondly, Brigid

    Due Date - 2/12

    Date Placed on Bedrest - 11/24 - 28w, 4d

Type - modified bedrest at home

    Why - PTL/contractions

Question of the Day - Do you have a name picked out for your LO yet?  Are you sharing with people and does the name have any special meaning?

Answer- DH's name is Adam, so from the beginning we have been calling LO "Little Adam," even before we knew it was a boy. Now.... DH is stuck on naming the baby after him and LO being a "Jr." I'm not a fan of the whole Jr concept, because I know it can cause headache down the line and I want my child to have somewhat of a unique name. It's been frustrating because DH doesn't seem to want to compromise with the one person who has been carrying the little stinker for 9 months!! Argh!

Updates - Nothing major to update. Still weaning myself off the terbutaline. I took 3 pills yesterday, instead of my normal 4-5. I've been feeling extra emotional today, the littlest thing sets me off.

I've given up on answering either of my phones, unless it's DH or one of my friends. Because everyone keeps asking "How you feeling?" "When he's going to be here, I can't wait to meet him!"

Um you're telling me people, this has been an emotional and draining pregnancy, don't you think I can't wait to meet MY son? I bled throughout my first trimester, then had some markers on my 20w ultrasound that wound up going away, then had to deal with bedrest. I feel like I'm being a b!tch, but it seems like I get nowhere with being nice. *sigh*

DS #1 born January 2010. DS #2 due June 2014.

  • Name - Stacy-- I am new to the board!

    Due Date - 1/31

Date Placed on Bedrest - 36 weeks

Type - modified bedrest at home

    Why - PIH

Question of the Day - Do you have a name picked out for your LO yet?  Are you sharing with people and does the name have any special meaning?

Answer- We are naming our baby Kellen Benjamin.  We are not sharing with anyone, and they are getting anxious to hear it!  The first name is a name that we both just really liked, the middle name is DHs middle name, as well as his father, grandfather and great grandfather.

Updates- I had my 38 week  appt today and they still don't really want to induce me because my BP goes down when I lay down, and because while I am 2 cm dialated, the babys's head is still high and they dont want to increase my odds of c-section at this point.  I have had 2 NSTs and both have been good, I go back again Thursday for another NST and they may change their mind about inducing.  Definitely will not be allowed to go past 40 weeks, so no matter what if he is nothere by next Thusrday, they will be scheduling my induction.  I am so thankful that this occurred so late for me, but I am starting to just have nerves about something happening to me or the baby, so I can't wait for him to come out.  I don't know how some of you do the bedrest for so so long. You amaze me, ladies!

Any suggestions on how to pass the time??  Happiness and health to all of you.

Ahhh, Brigid!!!!  Hi!!  I have to say, your little Kylee is soooo cute!  Thanks for the nice comments and it's so good to hear from you.  Can you belive I'm in 3rd tri?!  I just can't believe it.  I hope you are doing well and thanks for stopping by!

  • Welcome Stacy!  I'd suggest lots of reading and maybe getting a season of shows from Netflix to pass the time.  To be honest, there's not all that much one can do while on bedrest.  :-)  Do you knit or anything?  Now would be a great time to make a baby blanket. Also, make sure you have a computer close at hand if possible...you ]can bump and visit with friends on FB.  Good Luck and keep your LO cookin!
  • Name - Chelsea

    Due Date - 2/16

Date Placed on Bedrest - 1/4 hospitalized and off and on - modified 1/6 at home

Type - modified bedrest at home

    Why - PTL shortening cervix

Question of the Day - Do you have a name picked out for your LO yet?  Are you sharing with people and does the name have any special meaning?

Answer- Yes, Maya Giselle. We've told everyone pretty much. Nothing special, this is just the name that we finally agreed on.

Updates- Nothing really. LO has been super busy yesterday and today. I have had slight backaches - nothing too major that I can't tolerate.

DH put together the dresser yesterday - in 5 hours - and it's slightly messed up after he put it together so I have no nursery pics to share :(. Tomorrow is 36 weeks!!! My mom said that the baby must be coming this week because I keep drinking lime juice concentrate with crushed ice. Yum!!

**Jennifer** T&P for the grandfather. Is everything okay with the cat too?

**Lauren**T&P for tomorrow. I'm so sorry you have the stomach flu. At least you're in the hospital and they can properly take care of you.

  • Name - Becca

    Due Date - 4/21

Date Placed on Bedrest - 12/18 at 22w1d

Type - modified bedrest at home

    Why - shortened cervix

Question of the Day - Do you have a name picked out for your LO yet?  Are you sharing with people and does the name have any special meaning?

Answer- We get to pick two names.  We have one name picked out, which we choose right after we found out we were expecting two boys: Asher.  He is named in memory of my husband's grandmother who lived with him when he grew up.  As a random middle name, I like James.  Asher James.  For our other baby, we are throwing around the name Benjamin. His middle name would be Landes, which is my middle name and my mom's maiden name, and the family with whom we are closest (closer than my husband's family!).  So right now it's Asher James and Benjamin Landes.

Update- I got a call that I failed my 1-hour glucose test.  Argh!  I go tomorrow first thing to take my 3-hour, and I am really hoping that I pass because it's Girl Scout cookie season and I am already on bedrest, how many restrictions can a pregnant lady have???

***Jennifer: I am so sorry about your husband's grandfather!  I can see how you would be down in the dumps.  I hope for your husband and his family that his grandfather has a peaceful end, if there is nothing more they can do for him.

***Michelle: Adorable nursery!  I am soooo behind on nursery, we have nothing done.

  • Update:  After 2 major heart attacks and "coding" both times, they finally decided to do surgery on DH's grandfather, with the understanding that he might not even make it through surgery.  They managed to clear the blockages, but aren't sure how much damage has been done to his heart from the heart attacks.  Everyone is surprised by how well he is responding.  So only time will tell how successful the surgery really was.

I have not talked to my mom today to see how the cat is.  I unsuccessfully tried to sleep all day since I didn't sleep last night.  I'm going to call her in a few minutes.

Thanks everyone for the support and well wishes!

  • Name - Karen

    Due Date - 3/18

Date Placed on Bedrest -1/12 (31 weeks) at home

Type - Strict Bed rest at home

Why - Low lying placenta and a bleed in a blood vessel attached to the placenta

Question of the Day - Do you have a name picked out for your LO yet?  Are you sharing with people and does the name have any special meaning?

Answer: Not really. We can't agree on one. The only one we both really like is Jackson but it is so darn popular I am not sure about using it. DH family is VERY LARGE so there are a lot of names we just don't want to use because of that so that limits us from the get-go. My favorite is Connor & Parker. He liked Zachary & Jared. (For me I can't do Jared - that is the Jewelry store where my rings come fromand all the other jewelry DH has bought for me...so it seems weird to name my child the same thing).

Update: Today was ok...DD had school so that kept her busy, I was able to do some work from home so that occupied some of my day. I guess as long as I am able to work form home this won't be too bad because it gives me something to focus on.  Thankfully right now DH works from home - though he is job hunting so if he gets a new job that won't be the case.

I know Brig, I was thinking the same thing when I saw the "third trimester" post. Doesn't Michelle ROCK? I love that girl. She took over the bedrest mamas and now she's the elder stateswoman. You go Michelle!
  • Chelsea - Finally some good news!  My mom's cat actually pulled through the weekend and started eating.  So, she got to come home today and as my mom says "she's perked up."  She's also eating up a storm.  So, the vet said she's not completely out of the woods, but she's doing MUCH better!
