I've had my daughter on rice cereal for a week and a half now after my ped. recommended it. She is loving it. They told me to only give her 6 tsp./ 2x a day but she is gobbling it up!
When should I introduce another food, like vegetables/fruit?
She has always been a really good eater and is in the 90th percentile height/weight. I just don't want to over-feed her, but she loves to eat, and eats really fast.
Re: Questions about Solid Foods
I would give it another week or so. Maybe try applesauce in her cereal...add a tsp of it in the a.m. This was so fun for me. Enjoy!

This is a great website for starting baby on solids.
Thanks! Everything I read seems to contradict one another and then the pediatrician is telling me something different too.
Now I'm trying to figure out if I'm over-feeding her? She has always been a good eater, and spit up a lot at birth, but then out grew it (until now). She is eating the cereal so fast, and then downing a bottle. Should I be giving her less formula now that she's on solids? She has about 32oz - 35oz a day (+2oz mixed w/cereal). She is almost 16lbs and just 4 months old, but is also tall for her age.
Should I go back to just feeding her when she cries?
NO! Do not cut back on her formula. The cereal really has no nutritional value at all so all her calories/nutrients should be coming from her formula. She could very well be going thru a growth spurt which is causing the increased appetite. I would give her the bottle first then a little bit of the cereal.
I did not start my kids on solids until 6-7mths so I cannot comment on when to introduce new foods.
Hey there Saturday Night Double Tree,
My name is Emily, and right now I'm working on behalf of Gerber. That's great that you're looking for more information as to what to feed your little girl - Knowing when to start infants on solids is difficult to know since everyone grows and develops at different speeds. Have you tried taking this quiz at the Start Healthy, Stay Healthy site? I like it because you can answer questions such as where your child is in her development, like how old she is, how much she's grown, if she can support herself, and if she's frequently putting things in her mouth. Your answer will help determine if your baby is ready for solids or not.
If you want to, try taking the quiz, and feel free to let me know what you think, or if you have any further questions.
