Formula Help Needed

So up until recently.  I EBF so I don't know anything about formula so please no flames.

Is there any way to make less than a 2 ounce bottle?  I want to make enough just for DD's cereal, which is approx. 2 tbs.  According to the container the formula is only good once prepared for 24 hours.  The problem is I constantly have leftovers b/c I only use 2 tbs. at a time and this is one more thing to keep track of and it's driving me crazy to use leftovers from the day before and use a little of the one I made today and then store....AAAHHH! Help!

Also, since DD is used to breastmilk it has always been warm.  How do I warm Formula safetly?

TIA :)

Re: Formula Help Needed

  • Here's a suggestion: buy those 2 oz nursettes. Even though they cost more than powder, they won't go bad as quickly.  Enfamil makes them?no idea if Similac does too?

They last, refrigerated, for up to 48 hours.

Use roughly 1 oz per 2 tbsp of cereal.

  • Why not just pump and use breastmilk for the cereal?
  • Well, 1 Tbsp equals 1/2oz.  So 2 Tbsp will equal 1oz.  To make 1oz of formula you use 1oz of water and 1/2 scoop of formula.  To make it warm, just use warm water.

  • Thank you very much for the help! :) To the poster that asked about using breastmilk, my DD is having issues with gaining weight. She is 5 months and only 12.2 lbs. I don't have a supply issue but u must not produce enough fat in my hindmilk to help her gain weight so per Pedi's instructions we are doing rice cereal 2x's a day mixed with formula to help her gain.
