2nd Trimester

Natural induction........

TMI, but my brother and SIL swear this is why they had their baby a week or so early AND they got the idea from my parents!

Anyone else hear stories about this working?

Re: Natural induction........

  • So what did they use? There are several things that are believed (by some) to natually induce labor.

  • And what exactly is natural induction? ?I tried everything to get my son out and still went past my due date...I probably would have gone a week or 2 past if he didn't fail the NST which led to an emergency c-section at 40w2d.

  • I used several natural induction methods to get my son here. He was born at 37wks3d. I was told @ 36 weeks that he was 7lbs and they would not stop me if I went into labor. We had an US and he was fully developed- otherwise I would not have done it.

I walked- 3 miles a day, had sex every night and did nipple stimulation. All for about 1wk3d. LOL

  • DH and I had sex constantly the last few weeks and it didn't change a thing...no dilation, thinning, etc.!  I had DD via induction on her due date.

Yeah.  Plus I walked, walked, walked, bounced hard on one of those exercise balls, used nipple stimulation, etc. and still went a week overdue.  I don't think you can put yourself in labor unless your baby want to.

  • I'm a first time mom so flame if you want but what's so bad about waiting for your baby to be ready to come out? I can imagine how uncomfortable it is towards the end but if the baby isn't in distress, isn't it best to not have any interventions? What's wrong with being born on or after the due date? I figure if she's not coming out yet it's for a reason and she will come when she's ready. She won't stay in there forever.

I totally agree.  Hell, in France full term is considered 41 weeks!  I think in a lot of cases people are in sch a rush b/c they're uncomfortable, but I'm letting mine cook as long as possible. (Granted, I'm having twins so they'll force me to be induced no later than 38 weeks, which really pisses me off...  But if I want to have them in a hospital with a level 3 NICU I'm stuck with it.)

I think people forget that the estimates of baby's weight via ultrasound can be off as much as a pound.  Naturally, how many 9+ pound babies really happen?  Unless there's a situation like pre-e, gd causing a truly huge baby or other medical problems I don't understand inducing early or on the due date.  But that's just me...

  • Oh, I am nowhere near ready to have this baby. I was just wondering what others have considered/may have done.
  • I agree that the baby will come when the baby wants to come. I am sure my son would have stayed in there (despite my efforts) if he was not ready.

BTW: my 37w3d baby was 7lbs2oz they estimated his weight to be AT LEAST 10lbs had I went FT.
