High-Risk Pregnancy

anyone have multiple pgs with PIH?

I'm 32w with #2 and I'm starting to show signs of pregnancy-induced hypertension.

I had it with #1, beginning at week 33, and had an emergency c/section at 37w1d because placental failure (caused by PIH) put him into major distress. I never developed pre-e, and in fact, I was basically fine for the whole pg.

Anyway, things are ok so far - baby is moving fine, I have no swelling, and I know I get extra monitoring from now on. I've seriously cut back my activity, and am doing kick counts several times a day (since those saved my son's life 4 years ago). I'm ok for now.

But I have questions. If anyone has had repeat PIH, how did it end with pg #2? Was the progression faster, slower or the same? I think mine is starting at about the same point in my pg (since it was picked up at a routine OB appt with #1), and I'm (of course!) more worried than I was the first time. If it's likely to get worse fast, then I want to ask about the steroid shots for lungs etc.

Any BTDT? Advice? Thanks!

Re: anyone have multiple pgs with PIH?

  • I had PIH with both of my daughters.  The progression was almost identical.  My bp started increasing around 38 weeks with both of them.  I was induced at 38 weeks 5 days with the first and 38 weeks 3 days with the second.

I recently had a third and never developed PIH-it went straight to pre-eclampsia.  I was diagnosed with pre-e at 34 weeks at a routine NST.  I really have no idea why I got it this time-my pregnancies were pretty similar up until that point.  I was in better shape during this pg (still jogging until the diagnosis).

I was put on bedrest and induced at 37 weeks.  DS was fine when he was born-small but fine.

  • I had PIH turned Pre-e with DS1 and he was delivered via emergency c-section.  Tiny, but stable, preemie.

skipped PIH and went right to pre-e with DS2, and he was stillborn at 25w.

I'm on a bunch of meds right now with DD1, and I'm holding steady for now.

  • I have 4 kids. I have had Pre -E 3x With my first I had slightly high BP but they never really said anything except that it was a little high. He was born at 34 weeks and thankfully was fine. With my next baby (girl) I didn't have have any BP issues. My 3rd (boy) I had PIH again this time they were watching it a little more closely. I had preterm labor with him at 31 weeks and they were able to stop it and put me on meds. but when I had him at 39 weeks I went into L&D with BP of 165/125

Then my 4th (boy) I had a high risk doctor (having so many other problems and 4 miscarriages)  He watched me close and was in and out of L&D the last 6 weeks of my PG with high BP my water broke at 37weeks my BP was high again and ended up with a C-sec

I am already showing signs of high BP with this baby (boy) So my doc has had me taking meds for a couple of weeks already.

Good luck!!!! I hope all goes well!
